They have no major costs, they get free rent for the stadiums and related merchandising for the tournament, its a huge cash cow for them. They can ''afford'' to price tickets whatever way they like, because they know they will get people to buy them. 120 for a ticket is madness, considering the price for qualifying matches can be as low as 20 for the top nations such as Italy and Germany. Ireland and England seem to be the exception.

None of the companies I mentioned is German. Falcon Leisure Group [overseas] Ltd is a Uk registered company. They are all part of the TUI Group but all Irish operations are managed from the UK. The Irish tour operating business used to have its own office and management in Dublin but this was closed a couple of years ago and almost all staff made redundant. The Irish tour operation including Falcon Holidays, JWT< First Choice and Thomson are now all managed from the UK. |

@ireland4ever.. At the end after paying the probably large and wasteful UEFA salaries all the money does go back to the associations which then goes to players fund and you'd hope back into the game at some level. As I said you have to admit that 30 euro a ticket for a major event is great value. The bigger issue is the shambles that is the portal.
And Jimmy.. Without labouring the point as not really worth an argumement I was only making the point of tui being german as you were presenting the argument that it was the brits who did it.. |

Agreed BSM it is not important where these companies are from. What is important is that Thomson Sport Ireland Ltd is trading illegally without a tour operators licence and anybody who books a package with them to Euro 2012 is not protected by a bond if something goes wrong. Worse they are using the YBIG forums to promote their illegal packages. |

From what I could gather, Abbey got/requested a greater allocation of Cat 1 tickets than the other categories. Suppose if your paying 2500 etc, what another 360. PS: The charges on the portal that UEFA are imposing on the RESALE of tickets on which they have already claimed admin charges is scandalous. From the number of tickets available on Polish websites, Im hoping tickets will be relatively easy to pick up over there and at a 'reasonable' price. Obviously best case scenario is I get what I want through the FAI portal then happy days.

I am glad to see Thomson Sport have acknowledged the error of their ways and transferred the Euro 2012 business to another company which is in fact licensed to trade as a tour operator - the website now says "Thomson Sport Ireland a trading name of Specialist Holiday group Ireland (reg 045287) licensed under license no TO 029.". There is no longer any mention of the unlicensed company Thomson Sport Ireland Ltd which was trading illegally without a licence up to yesterday. Anyone who booked with them prior to yesterday should be aware that their package is not bonded unless Thomson Sport take certain legal steps to transfer their booking contract to the new company.
Thomson should also have to courtesy to to apologise to YBIG for advertising illegally on this site and make a generous donation to YBIG charities as a gesture of good faith. |

I don't want to be scaremongering and I may well be wrong on this. However if you are booked with 747 I'd recommend confirming immediately that you have guaranteed match tickets. I've heard rumblings that they are telling customers to buy on the UEFA portal. This could be wrong and could only apply to new customers but might be worth someone who booked this package checking it out. |

i am looking to do the croatia match day trip (already booked for the other two with DIY trip). i called 747 and they say that tickets are NOT guaranteed but they will "assist with the application", whatever that means. i know someone on their 2 match package who was also told that tickets are not guaranteed.
i remember they claimed at the launch of their packages that tickets were guaranteed but this may only apply to early bookings.

A wise entrepreneur would have made hotel bookings in the first days. Then make a group booking with Aerlingus. Then hound the portal for lets say 8 tickets. He could then charge for packages at a serious mark up yet look like value compared to some packages.
