Football has made small moves in that direction. Man City’s international endeavours, the Red Bull teams, the MK Dons. These are some of the examples of football moving in that direction.

Given the way it operates in the US, I can understand how people used to it don’t see it as strange. But it does impact fans. The fact that the Oakland Raiders will move out of California for Las Vegas rankles with many Raiders fans. Especially, if the franchise was going to move, returning to LA would have made more sense, but the Rams and Chargers did it.

I f**king despise the move on so many levels but you hit the nail on the head regarding LA. If the Raiders were returning to LA, I wouldn't expect half as much discontent with the move. However they couldn't get a stadium on their own, the city wouldn't pay for it and the NFL gave first refusal to the Chargers after approving the Rams move. As well as they are doing on the field, I do not expect the Chargers to be a success in LA in the long run.

I think the only thing that makes sense of the move is financial. But the crowd will be akin to those who show up for residency shows, stag and hen parties, and tourists. Actually getting an organic and thriving fan base seems virtually impossible.

Jesus.LOL

Doesn't tell the full story, huge amount of away fans at each
Fair enough.I don't understand American sporting culture enough, nor am I interested enough, to criticise how they do things. It just seems so odd.

Happens in Irish sport a lot too with Wicklow Rovers who have moved more times than your man from Maroon 5 did last night.

I would disagree on this but only because I've actually seen different - Was in Vegas for one of the Stanley Cup games and the people who live in Vegas were really getting behind the Golden Knights. Now, it might very well have been different had they been rubbish but if the Raiders can get their rebuild going then they will have a local fan base ready for them.

Yeah Vegas is a proper city away from the strip, the wider area has a popualtion of 2 million people. Should be well able to sustain a football team. The tourist side of it will be interesting to see, I can't imagine many flying in to see a game, there's better cities to do that, and casino owners aren't gonna be sending their high rollers off to football for 4/5 hours when they could be playing blackjack.

As for the Chargers, yeah I can't see them working out. They announced ticket prices back last May, then slashed them last October (starting at $50), which annoyed Rams and NFL, as people now see the Rams as being overpriced, when they're really probably just reflective of what NFL tickets cost.

That was a painful watch, don't remember a worse super bowl

It was interesting how focussed the media of the game was around Wade Phillips, and his defensive co-ordination. That actually worked reasonably well, but I struggle to recall a QB to be less influential in a Super Bowl  as Goff was. He struggled to make any yardage at all, while Brady and co (particularly Gronk and Edelman) were more effective.

For the neutral or a prospective NFL fan, that would have put them off for life.

He was poor alright, although he was also given very little time in the pocket. The Pats defensive line won them that Super Bowl really. The Rams overall defence was excellent but they just never looked like they could get it going when they had possession themselves.

I've seen a lot about it being 'the worst Super Bowl ever' but I'd tend not to agree with that assessment. A blow out win for either side definitely would have been a less enjoyable spectacle. It was a low scoring contest but it was tight right down to the final couple of minutes, and because scores were at such a premium it kept things really tense and meant that when a TD was eventually scored you knew it was likely to be massive - game clinching even.

No doubt about the Patriots being deserved winners anyway. They should have been much further ahead at half time as well.

Great bit of business for the Raiders, they only coughed up two picks a third and fifth rounder. Stole him at that.

Decent alright. The issue is his massive salary.

Big loss for the Steelers. Bryant and Brown were a capable tandem when they were both in the team at Pittsburgh but Bryant may never play again, of course. All depends on his disciplinary hearings.

Most would've had his as a third round only and the salary is way up so don't know if I'd call him a steal at all.

Half glad the bills missed out if they were the terms, long term deals for lads that age rarely work out.

Looking like Marc ingram his way out of new orleans. Would be a decent pickup for someone looking for a RB in free agency
