Not in the Everton squad for their Europa league game today.  Any one know the story with (i) his fitness and (ii) who's in for him?

Whilst arguably more miss than hit for Ireland so far, he can still be a big player for us when he's on form (e.g.: v Germany at home), and still has room to develop if he can get an injury-free run.

Out of Everton's first game of the season against Stoke, having failed to recover from a knee injury.

Cheers. With his recent apparent injury record, there is no way Everton will get the demanded £25 mil for him (despite by today's prices being well worth it when fit and playing).  Sounds like bluster to be asking for that, particularly when Everton are over-loaded in his position.

Looking forward to him getting back fit and playing for another club.

Hopefully O'Neill calls him up anyway if it gets up that arsehole Koeman's nose.

More talk of a move to Newcastle unless it is a loan with an option to buy can't see it happening.

Also linked with West Brom which you'd say is more likely

Gareth Barry having a medical at West Brom today. I know he is a totally different player to McCarthy but not sure West Brom would want both of them.

Would Everton get rid of both Barry and McCarthy though?

No they wouldn't, and Barry and McCarthy aren't 'totally different players' - and that's the point - Barry, a direct rival in McCarthy's position, leaving Everton can only be a seen as a positive.

Leicester, WBA and Newcastle have all expressed an interest in McCarthy and have all been effectively priced out of a move, with Everton reportedly valuing him at £25m. So, it doesn't seem like they're all that desperate to get rid. Saying that, it still wouldn't surprise me if he left before the window if a club comes along prepared to stump up enough cash.

I meant West Brom are unlikely to want both Barry and McCarthy, especially given the potential cost.

Everton obviously still have Gueye and Schneiderlin as holding midfielders, and Besic at a push, so they could cope without McCarthy, even given their Europa programme. But should he stay, the reduced competition can only, of course, be a good thing.
