except that the bottom 10 in EPL get to play against the top 10 in EPL and get the experience of playing against top level opposition. An important plus imo for any international.

Lads were making a perfectly reasonable comment, that there is not a lot of difference between top Championship and bottom EPL teams. They may not have been considering that the quality of opposition is important to a player's development.

Bit harsh to call them gobsh*tes mate. I'd reserve that term for people whose head is so farfar up their own arse that they think they are smart, when the evidence would appear to the contrary.

I doubt anyone overlooked it. I dont think it makes any difference, if at all. Sledge never played a PL match in his career and he performed outstandingly for us for 2 and a half years against top teams. Whelan on the other hand who has played against all the big teams for years has consistently failed to perform at international level. Actually Hendrick played better last night thatn I've ever seen whelan play for us - not that that would be hard.

Andy Reid was the best midfielder in the Championship this year. I dont think it makes a blind bit of difference to us where and who he's playing. He'll still put in top class set pieces and be a stand out player regardless

There is no guarantee that Reid will even make the squad come the qualifiers.

Meyler and Hendricks both may play their way into the squad at the expense of Reid.

McCarthy, Gibson, Meyler and Whelan are all EPL players and then you have Reid, Green and Hendricks.

I'd assume that O'Neill will only pick 4 midfielders.

I'll throw Hoolahan in as one of the strikers for the same of it.

He'll be in the squad in September if fit. He'll be back ahead of Quinn, for one. Also, there's only 3 wingers in the current squad. Only Brady to come back, so there's a spot there

I forgot about Quinn!

He's not a winger and won't be included as a winger. The players that have shown up for these games will be preferred over those who didn't make the games.

I'm just throwing it out there that some players who we think will make the cut. Won't.

Quinn might play in the next 2 games and do really well, which will then put him up the pecking order so to speak.

I'd put Gibson and Brady in the same bracket as Reid too.

Seems Watford are interested in signing him.... would be good for us.... but as he is still got over a year on his contract at Derby would mean Watford having to pay a fee..... something the Pozzos are usually not keen on
Wallet ?? What the fcuk is that ?

Was in one of the local Watford papers alright from what i've heard.  Not sure how the move would benefit the lad.  Would be a step sideways if anything.

A step down in ny opinion
(No offence to the hornets on here).
Derby should be pushing for automatic promotion again. I think henderick can harbour ambitions of paying in the epl sooner rather than later and he has a better chance achieving that at Derby.

No disrespect to Watford but I don't think that this would be a good move for him. He is very capable and should definitely be looking to push up into the premier league or a european league of similar quality. I know it's unlikely to happen but I'd love to see some of our better young players like Hendrick gain experience at a good level outside of the UK.

After signing a new four year contract with derby

Derby County: Jeff Hendrick signs new four-year deal

Derby County midfielder Jeff Hendrick has signed a new four-year contract with the Championship club.

The Republic of Ireland international, 22, scored five goals in 35 games last term as the Rams lost out to QPR in the play-off final at Wembley.

Hendrick, who had a season remaining on his previous deal, has made 129 senior appearances for the Rams since 2011.

"It is probably one of the best signings we will make this summer," said Derby County boss Steve McClaren.

"He ended last season in very good form and made a real impact on the side, so we'll be looking for exactly the same from him at the start of the new season in August."

Hendrick initially joined Derby as a trainee from St Kevin's Boys in Dublin and signed his first professional contract at the end of the 2009-10 campaign.
