Never had any problem with Liverpool but that's incredibly bad form from a club that likes to put itself on a pedestal.

The fact that nearly all fans are disgusted by this shows that owners are out on their own with this. The above in bold is said by the fans, not the owners.

Shows the disconnect between owners and fans, hardly a phenomenon unique to Liverpool. The only thing surprising is that they did it when it might damage the brand’s reputation.
Owners tend to hide behind the better aspects of the image of supporters to promote the brand and make more money.

Awful form. Bet they thought this could be hidden away from the papers and they'd keep their squeaky clean "proper club" theme.
They're an american franchise at this stage

Corporate decision by corporate entity, hard to know why anyone is surprised. Just goes to show the meaning of corporate guff though, a few years ago after the ST price increase that the Liverpool fans rejected, the club/owners came out with some kind of ''We misjudged that one, sorry about that, sure we're really only new here, we understand the club a lot better now, won't happen again'' type sh*te.
It would seem they don't understand anything much other than their bottom line, after all that. And oddly enough, they have a politically aware manager who actually does understand the club, and its place in society, locally and globally, where a lot of clubs don't have that, so its not as if they had to go too far for advice, if they had sought any. But for all that, football, and the big clubs/owners in it, remain part of a wider societal and political issue, that issue being capitalising profits and socialising losses. Liverpool and their owners deserve every bit of abuse coming their way, but this decison doesn't exist in a vacuum, something that wider society, even including ridiculously tribalised fans of other clubs, should realise. |

Yeah anyone from.one club.sl*gging another club on this is madness. All of the clubs are pretty much as bad as each when it comes to this sort of lack of basic morality. Very few clubs can hold their heads up high.

I'd narrow it to the owners more so, and not just Liverpool's, at least half in the EPL are billionaires. Give this decision to Klopp, Pep (who already donated a million to Spain) Jose (went out delivering meals to vulnerable elderly people) , Potter, Howe (voluntarily took pay cuts) etc, and I think the basic morality of footballers and managers is probably no better or worse than any other sector of society- the majority of them would 'do the right thing' and without being asked twice either. The billionaire rich simply believe those morality things/decisions are for other people, people who aren't as rich as them, and sure aren't they already losing a fortune paying Firmino, Maguire and Harry Kane for doing nothing, that is more than enough for them to contribute. |

Just on the furloughing of staff itself, ten EPL clubs are expected to take government and taxpayers hand outs to pay 80% of their staff and 10 aren’t. So can’t really say they’re all as bad as each other on this issue

You can, because they are all as bad each other! The ones that aren’t taking the government money are only doing so because of a fear of damage to their brand’s reputation. It certainly isn’t a case of them just doing the right thing.
And what are they supposed to do then? Stopping money-grabbing ****s 100 times out of 100, then it might be easier to say they aren’t ****s 100% of the time. Play a part in their communities regularly! Not photo opportunities or to keep the local council sweet, genuine things you would expect from a club. I enjoy the rivalry between fans, but when you go down the route of ‘my egomaniacal sociopathic billionaire is less of a **** than yours’ it loses its fun somewhat.
