That's your opinion though?

Firstly, his positioning as I've said here numerous times already isn't good enough. We were blessed to have not gotten punished at least once if not twice in the second half from him falling asleep.

Secondly, to actually demand the ball like Coleman does and offer himself as a proper attacking threat like most modern day full backs do!

Ward had to wait for McGeady to come on to really start getting involved in an attacking sense, see how Christie bombed forward naturally at will when he came on?

Why for a full back does he fell the need to hoof the ball more often than not, we played with 3 center midfielders tonight? Simply give the ball inside when its not on for a winger instead of giving it back to the opposition (this is a criticism I'd have with many of our players)
Cyrus is f**king useless, he has no understanding of the game of football, a donkey! I felt Ward drove us on when he could, we had far bigger problems than him!!

I'm not saying Cyrus is Cafu LOL nor do I think he's a better all rounder than Ward (I don't rate either tbh) but I liked the way Cyrus got heavily involved when he came running up and down the line.

I just felt Ward needed to take the bull by the horns and use his pace and to his credit, he actually has a decent delivery and he just rarely tried to whip in a ball when it was on. It was so frustrating, he then in turn would give Aiden the ball who would have to try beat 2 or 3 Welsh players.
Fair enough, I counted Cyrus giving the ball away 7 times when he came on! Gary Rowett dropped him for a reason! He is a league 2 full back at best.

Have to say I thought Christie did more than Seamus had after coming on and was overall quite positive. We do need to reevaluate our full-back options in terms of cover now though certainly.
We're decent enough..

Maybe its because he came on when wales went down to 10 and decided they were gonna put 10 men behind the ball and hold out for the draw, which allowed christie to get forward more than coleman. The only positive I saw from christie was his throw ins, he looks like an athlete that was turned into a soccer player.

It says a hell of a lot about what some of our supporters know about football on here if they are calling for 1 of our better players on the night last night(and through the campaign so far) to be dropped Wacko, and while i am at it, as good a player Seamus is his positional sense at times is as dodgy as fck, we should have been 1-0 down in the first half from a bale ball which was not controlled while Seamus was asleep.
A terrible game with only a few lads doing themselves justice and surprise surprise they are the players that everybody likes to knock on here

I'll be the first to say that I've hammered him in the past. Thought he was appalling for us on occasions previously, especially positionally when defending. The difference in the last 12 months is amazing though. He's really solid now defensively. Going forward though he should be offering more imo, but that is as much to do with the amount of hoofball we play as Ward himself. Has improved immensely for us and should get huge kudos for that.

Its a historic thing with Ward. There is a major difference between the Ward we see today, and the Ward we saw in 2012-2013. He was a man who suffered successive relegations, and was deemed surplus to requirements by Kenny Jackett. He lost his place in the Irish team, and even seemed to be on the way out of the consciousness of managements. His time at Brighton re-calibrated him, and he has taken up the baton since joining Burnley, and has held down their left back slot on merit.

I though he was reliable, and defensively sound in the tackle last night, and I think due to McClean's propensity to get caught up in the middle, he was also charged with marking Gunter alongside his other defensive duties. He was reliable and dependable, and has been since he won his place back in the Irish team.

Ward seemed lost at Euro 2012, and that has made fans wary of him, however, he is a different player today, a consistent PL left back, who has done very well in recent times.

Did what was asked of him last night, can't say anything bad about him. Has been one of our most consistent players in the past 2 years, and yes, he was awful V Belgium before anyone says it, as were about 8 others.

Agreed!

Only on one occasion he annoyed me was with Bale's late effort he should have fouled him when he picked up the ball.

Him and McLean were our best players, Ward wasthe only one trying to use the ball properly in the 1st half. Few times he was out wide free but didn't get any passes.

Our central midfield was so guiless - alas if only Wes was on the pitch for those last 20 minutes

Now when I opened this thread I did think everyone would be talking about how well Wardy played , hey but there you go . I think he had a good game to be honest Bale was getting no joy up against Wardy and moved inside says a lot if you ask me .
On the whole is you look at the stats how goals did our defence concede , yer that kind of tells it's own story really, still everyone sees something different .

Ward was solid and has improved massively in recent years. Christie did okay when he came on, got forward, didn't hide and had some decent long throws. Final ball could have been better but he did reasonably well. Anyone arguing otherwise clearly has a beef with either player and isn't judging their performance on its merits.
