Pity all the players didn't share his passion for playing for The EIRE. A great servant. Like Robert Keane and Seamus Coleman the love they have for playing for their country sines through.

A Great lad...still one of the fittest on our team. He'll be running marathons past his 60's.
Enjoy the family time and thanks for the great memories Jim |

doesn't seem that long ago he was earning his first cap. A warrior of a man who left it all out there every time. Some great memories, sad to see him go. Hopefully he can leave some of that fire and passion he has with the rest of the squad.

A great servant for his country, not the most gifted but if the younger generation coming through have half as much desire and pride in playing for his country then they'll be doing well, surely he warrants a display for his services and dedication maybe the Greece game is too soon but what about the NZ game. Would definitely donate to it......

Unlike many many professional footballers, James will hang up his boots knowing he wrung every last drop out of his career. For a lad that was relatively limited technically, his sheer determination got him to the top of the professional game. Even now, in his late 30s, he's probably better conditioned than most pros. He has incredible drive.
The other things that sets him apart from most pro baller are his principles, which are well documented. He'll go down, rightfully, as one of the greatest to wear the famous green jersey. James, go raibh míle maith agat.

Scores his 1st goal for Wrexham tonight. He'll be around the 2027 squad you'd imagine.

Given an interview to RTE tonight where James suggests the reason he was left out of the squad recently was because he dropped into League 2. I think that is a fairly valid reason for dropping someone from the squad?

So he told Kenny he was retiring in November. He then joins Wrexham. Kenny leaves him out of the squad and then calls him back for this squad and McClean is annoyed over it.
Seems pretty childish.

Exactly. Hes turning 35 in a few weeks and playing in League Two. Hes lucky someone like Kenny was manager the last few years because he probably would have had 20 caps less and had no send off.

Said he's been in every squad since 2012 and it hurt not to be in the last squad. Referenced getting injections to play for Ireland while seeing other players pull out of squads with minor knocks to then play for their club, which players have been ridiculed on here for and has always put country before club. Said earlier that he was the best man for that role which he has been. Its James McClean wearing his heart on his sleeve which he always has done and actually having a backbone to say how he feels, nothing childish in it for me.

If all our players had his attitude we would be in a better place than we are now.

Wearing your heart on your sleeve in a professional environment is the very definition of being childish. If anyone one of us wore our heart on our sleeve in our jobs, how would we get on. Part of growing up and mixing with adults is not just saying what’s on your mind and wearing your your heart on your sleeve. It’s totally reasonable for Kenny not to pick McLean as he was retiring anyway this month.
