It certainly confirms something
Very unnecessary from James, we all know Varadkar is a ball bag.

?

I've had a look at there's nothing obvious on it.

Edit: checked twitter, leg in a brace. Balls.

We'll miss his energy and guile but not much else.

Last 15 minute impact sub at best.

Say what you like about James McClean , there is no-one in the current squad who takes a more genuine pride in wearing the green jersey . He'll give 100% for the full 90 minutes , provide power and pace , close people down , get crosses in and even score goals . He will not be intimidated by the occasion . We don't have world class players but attitude and commitment count for a lot . One of the first names on the team sheet if he is fit and I hope he will be .

He’ll be injured and we’ll still play him
You asked if I'd be anyone from history, fact or fiction, dead or alive:
I said "I'd be Tony Cascarino, circa 1995"

Correct!

If he is missing the opportunity to play wing backs surely should come in to consideration, I reckon he will go with Brady though.

The irony here is that he's actually been on a very decent run of club form

It’s a strange one. One of the lads I’d usually be happy to see not on the team sheet but the way he’s been playing for stoke I would have had him playing . Don’t think Brady can play he hasn’t had enough minutes and anytime I’ve seen him recently he’s been way off the pace. He might try Connolly out there or Robinson. We’ll miss James defensive capabilities though I don’t think Connolly/Robinson offer that. One thing I heard Kenny Cunningham say yesterday was that he’d play Whelan and Mccarthy in centre mid . I know it’s been done before and never really worked but would have us solid enough defensively so we could throw a more attacking option in on the left

McCarthy and Whelan together has the effect of making both players worse, at least when they're on their own they're forced to take more responsibility. Playing both of them together now considering we've painstakingly learned how ineffectual they are as a pair would be lunacy.
We're decent enough..

He has actually been playing well recently. I think he will be a big loss. An in-form McClean has been known to get a goal for us when we need one.

Problem is that, for me, he's not been in form in the green shirt for quite a while.
You'll never fault his effort and if you are employing a press then he's ideal to lead that but his end product has been really lacking. I know he'e been playing well for Stoke but initial reaction when I heard he might be out was that it might present us with an opportunity to change things slightly.
