Fergie is one of the greatest mangers of all time. I have complete faith in whatever he sees fit to do with a young irishman.. 
As for O'Shea, his ability to play anywhere across defense or centre mid helped utd and ireland out numerous times

He's a winger who can't really defend. 

I'd say he's getting a run there to improve his defensive qualities. By him starting a couple of games as a left back he'll think to himself "If i improve my defending i might get in here" cos the fact is he does need to improve.

This annoys me about Fergie.. To take a youth who is a talented winger/midfielder and put him in at full back... If he had spent 20 million on a winger he would play him as a winger, but just cos hes a cheap option he throws him in at full back. He pissed around with John O shea too( a natural centre back) and it never helped him.
