Flew into Dublin Airport yesterday, landed about 11am. Thankfully the flight wasn’t an hour or two later. Was very bumpy on approach, probably as bad as I’ve experienced.

We're in an estate that was a new build in 2015, survived all the other storms no problem but a few slates came off the roof and a tree down in the back garden last night.

Saw a flight from Copenhagen to Dublin, attempted landing & circled and eventually after 3hrs in the air it landed in Manchester, stayed on runway for another couple of hours then headed for Dublin again, got turned back again and ended up in Liverpool. 7 hours after initial takeoff

There should be a law that you cannot land a plane in wind over a certain strength unless low on fuel/emergency etc... Imagine having 5 goes at landing before you succeed. I imagine the passengers were fairly sh*tting themselves. Reminds me of Man Utd having 3 attempts at a take off in Munich in 1958.

Any pilots that break this law should be locked up and fined heavily. 6 months minimum.

What's so funny about it? Its endangering people's lives trying to land a plane in dangerously high winds. You only have to look up Youtube to see some close calls. And pilots shouldn;t be under pressure from Ryanair or their bosses to make risky landings for the sake of schedules or fuel costs.

Am no expert but I imagine that aviation is probably already one of the most highly regulated industries so I imagine there are rules in place already around what is safe and what isn't

It’s one of the safest & most regulated form of transport as is. How many accidents have happened due to high winds recently? Edit; just saw Borussia make the exact same point.

then why the laugh? You seemed to think a rule is a stupid idea. Now you appear to be agreeing about the idea of existing regulations. I googled it and there is a grey area in the regulations. Its up to the individual airlines to decide what is the max wind speed a plane can land in (circa 40mph) but a lot of it is down to the discretion of the pilot. A big problem is the gusts coming in which can exceed the average wind speed. Not sure about the airport but over on the west coast there was gusts of 70mph+. |

''The laws'' of the game of football are a set of rules. Aviation Regulation is a law. |
