Not going to say he's replacing him but fellow Irish winger Daire O'Connor just left Ayr United (signing for Glentoran).

Released by Hibs after an injury hit year at the club. That might be it for his playing career now.

If that is the end for Aiden, and assuming Shane Long is finishing up as expected, that will leave James McClean as the only member of the Euro 2012 squad still playing professional football. It wasn't that young a squad, only McClean and Gibson were under 25.

Yeah took him a while to get going for Ireland -  IIRC was fairly bit part for the 2000-01 campaign despite already being 21-22 years old. From Japan on wards, was our best performer for next 8 years though.

Duff was class in his last season with Blackburn and first season with Chelsea. Think there were a couple of injuries that did him in. If he had of kept the same ability as in that 01/02/03  period he could have played for barca or Real he was that good.

I also remember that Duff didn't set the world alight for the first couple of years. He was considered a bit wasteful, no right foot etc.
Remember specifically one game in the stands and people shouting to get him taking off he has two left feet etc.
First game where it was "ok this guy is the business" was Andorra 3-0 in Barcelona. 2-3 years after his debut.

The revisionism here is insane. Wacko

I've been at nearly every home game, and many aways, since 2001 and Duff was without doubt the best player we had in that period. I thought he was always appreciated in the stands though, unlike Keane and McGeady (which is just a poor reflection on our fans and of how entitled/deluded they are).

If I recall with Duff, brilliant breath of fresh air when he first broke into the team about 96/97 when he was also involved in Malaysia as well. Never really clicked as a striker which McCarthy had him playing as for a while. Injured a fair bit in the 2002 qualifying campaign. Very decent world cup but probably suffered a bit during the Kerr/Stan era and then things winding down in the Trap era anyway. His brilliant pass through for Keane in Paris is the last big Duff moment I can recall. After that more of a veteran, and truth be told we would have been better not qualifying for Euro 2012.
