Would end up in court I'm sure if they tried to move it which would probably mean that it would still go ahead there.

If you look at the other bids for 2022 and what the voting was for them Qatar was miles ahead (brown envelopes cough ) USA was next with 8 votes, then Korea with 5 and Japan maxed out at 3 votes and Oz got 1 Obviously US won't look to host it as they have the next one after (But they could host it tomorrow if needs be) Korea and Japan both interesting options I think the (Cough brown envelopes) fact they only recently hosted in 2002 stood against them. As for Australia I've no doubt they could host a successful tournament, they have plenty of experience of hosting sporting events, Rugby, Cricket World Cups..Obviously time of matches in Europe and travel would be an absolute pain in the arse but sure when have FIFA cared about that. (cough brown envelopes) Of course you know England will probably throw their name in the ring as an alternative as may the Germans both could host a World cup tomorrow with perhaps a few slight tweaks. Even Brazil who hosted in 2014 might try to make use of their rest of the year car parks if really needed. Or maybe FIFA will go all UEFA and have a World Wide Event A World Cup for the World

I wouldn't be so sure about that at such short notice. For Russia 2018, they were required to provide 12 stadia with a minimum 40k capacity (ok, they cheated on one or two). Yet if you look at a list of stadia presently availably in Oz, I'm afraid they fall a good bit short: And that list of "soccer" stadia actually includes grounds which are primarily for cricket and/or AFL i.e. huge and therefore hardly ideal for football. Tbh, I doubt they could build another 3 or 4 more and rebuild or enlarge some more of the existing ones to have them "match-ready" by mid 2022. And as for hosting cricket and rugby world cups etc, they were decidedly small beer compared with hosting 32 teams from all over the world, with huge numbers of travelling fans and all the associated media, language, travel, infrastructure and commercial demands etc. I mean, how many hotel beds are there eg in Geelong or Townsville? Which is not to say Australia couldn't have managed it if awarded it originally, and I personally would have been all for it, but that was then, this is now.
And both/either would have the advantage of reverting to holding it in the summer.
Besides, 8 years later is just too soon. Edited by Territorial - 18 Jun 2019 at 2:36pm |

How many scandals have we had now about that world cup only for them to peeter out into nothing? I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens over this latest scandal with Michel Platini and there'shardly a word said about it tomorrow.
Don't worry though folks - there'll be another one along in a month or so.

Let’s not forget the most important reason why Australia couldn’t host it at short notice - It’s during AFL season so all stadiums would be unavailable. Just give it to the Yanks already so there’s no more farcical stuff going on

If it stays in the winter time slot for us then it isn't an issue. But, as mentioned above, Australia just don't have the stadia at the moment to step in.

Good point.
USA (with Canada and Mexico) have already been awarded 2026, so there's no way they should be given 2022 as well. Quite honestly, a late re-assignment could/should only go to either Germany or England, and seeing as the Germans have hosted it twice, inc as recently as 2006, while England have only had it once (over half a century ago), then it really should be theirs. Which would also get FIFA out of a hole over 2030, when it should be Europe's turn to host the WC, but they're desperate to give it to China.

Talking of Europe's turn - Europe has just had it's turn only last year. Would FIFA really want to tear up their rotation policy and have 2 successive tournaments in Europe? If they are, I'd be happy enough to see England stage it in 2022.

They have the infrastructure. Have hosted the Olympics in recent times so shouldn’t be a problem for them with 3 years prep.

I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.

That was kinda my point, though. FIFA are desparate to tear up the rotation policy for 2030, so as to take it away from Europe and give it to Asia (China, basically). If they awarded 2022 to Europe on a "needs must" basis, then that would allow them to shoehorn China into 2030, with Europe than not eligible again until 2042 (or even 2046?). That said, regardless of what sh*t comes out over Qatar and FIFA's corruption over 2022 (and I expect there's loads more to come), they'll just drag out the legal process until it's too late to re-assign it to anyone else.

Still think the 2030 will go to the south american bid of Uruguay–Argentina–Chile–Paraguay as part of the centenary not that I agree with it I just think it will happen

So whilst FIFA might use the "centenary" argument to justify Uru/Arg/Chile/Par getting it if that's what they want, I doubt that will be their plan, not least because the entire GDP of those four countries combined wouldn't cover the amount Xi would be prepared to set aside in bribes for FIFA. (Sorry, did I say "bribes"? I must have meant "Development Money for the World Game", or somesuch). Besides, S.America only has 10 Member Associations in FIFA, whereas Asia has 47, which must count for something.
