The kids have a while time grasping the concept these days in school I find. Not a bother with the rest of the maths curriculum but not a breeze of how time works

The concept and value of physical currency too is becoming harder to teach I've been told, years ago you'd have gotten little kids going to the shops with a fist full of coins and throwing them onto the counter to pay not knowing if they had enough. Now you're seeing kids into their teens doing the same.

Yeah tablets and chromebooks are the norm now, as are digital white boards in class rooms. No black / white boards or overheard projectors these days.

No real complaints there though, I'm convinced 15 years off of carrying 2 stone worth of books to and from school every day is what f**ked up my back.

Someone told me this recently but didn;t believe them that young people today dont know how to use cash and dont understand change or anything.  The mind boggles.

yeah sorry thats the other thing, was told by same person they'll just walk off without waiting for change too! Like 12, 13, 14 year olds! Its mental.

I think its also that each generation has been getting babied too much too though, mammy running around doing everything for them.

Cousin of mine got his first job out of college there last year and had never taken a bus in his life, didnt know how to get to his job on his own. How much they cost, how to use a leap card etc.. 23 like! The auntie was still giving him run arounds and lunch money like he was in secondary the whole time LOL

I have students in grade 12 (equivalent of 6th year) who can’t tell the time looking at a clock. I only copped they were serious during an exam when they kept asking me the time even though there was a clock in the room.

100% true. A cousin of mine is 20 and can't read a normal clock.

wana get him tested, i used to bring my mum for every year see how her dementia was progressing, not being able to draw a clock was one of the tests

Another young people gripe.  I live in an area with lots of students.  The amount of times I observe them crossing the road at the entrance to my estate and they dont look around for traffic and step off the kerb onto the road oblivious to their surroundings.  I have seen this numerous times.  I literally have to stop my car to avoid running them over. Its like they are relying on their hearing.  Fat lot of good that is if an electric car, bike or e-scooter clatters into you.

They're mostly not even on their phone. Sometimes they are but its like they are just dopey fookers.

I walked into my bathroom one night - the light was off - to see my son, standing there with his phone in one hand, his lad in the other hand, slashing all over the place (everywhere but the actual toilet) in the dark of the night....

He couldn't even bring himself to get of his phone for 30 seconds to take a piss.

Another time when he was a lot younger, again mesmerised by what's on his iPAD. Goes in for a dump, iPAD on the ground, takes his dump whilst playing roadblocks or whatever - then realises that he never put the toiled seat UP, ends up curling this walking stick out which is sat steaming on the toilet seat - he calls me in - I walk in evaluate the situation and literally ran out of the house screaming.

I honestly think the basics must not be being taught to kids anymore.

We'll have to run new ad campaigns warning kids about electricity wires, crossing the road, not eating yellow snow and why putting your hand into a fire isn't safe.
