There's a lot of mention of confidence which is obviously true, but all the confidence in the world isn't going to change the fact that he doesn't have pace.

In the current era of high press he just doesn't cut it unfortunately.

Under Hughton, O'Neill, McCarthy Duffy makes sense. Under a new system, it has to be accepted that Duffy's past successes don't absolve him indefinitely.

Why did Celtic take him in? This was well known beforehand....
I know it’s only a loan move but his wages would be expensive for the Scottish league.

We don't have any one who can put the ball in the net either.

Matt Doherty or Stevens are both deployed and neither fit the system.

You make the best out of the players you have avaiable.

Think people are forgetting the mental side of things. The lad only lost his dad very recently. The move to Celtic was probably very much emotionally driven.

I said it before as was told by reliable source,  the loss of his dad has affected him badly apparently.

I don't agree with fundamentally weakening a system (especially in centre defence) to include someone that gets the odd goal.

A centre back playing a high line while having no pace is not something you try and accommodate. That's a fatal flaw in a system that will be exploited again and again by any opposition that's clued in. In game...

A.) Duffy would continue to be done on the counter, eventually you would be punished.
B.) Duffy instinctively drops deeper to compensate for his pace, nullifying our high line, shape and over all system.

Surely, the cons outweigh the pros in this regard.

I really like Duffy when he's on song, but assuming Kenny continues his style, then I don't see much of a future for Shane.

He's weakening the system by not playing the players in the right system.

But Kenny is hell bent on playing this 4-3-3.

We have a full squad of underwhelming players.

I don't really care if Duffy plays or not to be honest, as I don't believe this is a problem area for us, far from it actually.

There are 6 players ahead of them incapable of creating or scoring goals. That's where the focus should be.

Celtic seem to be better for his absence anyway.

My guess is that he has been taken out of the line of fire for a while.

celtic have still given up quite a lot of good chances in his absence, the difference is they have capitalised on their own chances while motherwell have been wasteful

He might find it difficult to get back into the Celtic team.

No harm to bring him on once the game was safe. Maybe build his confidence a bit and realistically he couldn't do too much damage in less than 15 minutes on the pitch.

That's exactly why he was left out, and it would have happened a while back only for Celtics injury and covid problems. The last few weeks were very tough for Duffy and under normal circumstances he would have been left out for his own good. His reputation as a decent CB is in the gutter at the moment which is an awful shame. I hope he rebuilds his confidence and adapts better to life at Celtic over the coming months. His performances would certainly have giving Stephan Kenny plenty to think about

im not sure many other than celtic fans are paying attention to duffys reputation, many premiership sides who play a defensive style would still take him on without hesitation i would say

Not a single Premier League side wanted Duffy enough to go and get him during the summer, so it's even more unlikely they'd go for him now.

He's out of sight and out of mind in Scotland, I'd question whether he will play in the Premier League again. Maybe a newly promoted team might take him, but all the promoted teams this year play a reasonably expansive game, so didn't want Duffy. Might be a similar situation next season.

If he can't turn it around at Celtic it will be back to the Brighton reserves or down to the Championship I think. The Sheffield Wednesdays and Stokes of that division would take him alright.
