But you are mentioning it, despite him being no more "fairly dreadful"  than others.

Against Serbia he rated 6 (Irish Times and The 42) - the same or higher than Doherty, Travers,  Stevens, Molumby, Connolly and Hendrix.

He was no more dreadful than anyone against Luxembourg. In fact, Pundit Arena scored everyone 4 - except Bazunu, Coleman, and Clark. The lowest rating (3) was for Stephen Kenny. The Irish Times and Indo had a similar trend. Every player was rated 5 by The 42.

We have many CB options now. How many will better Clark's EPL/C'ship career stats? And having done so  how many will be branded "an imbecile" by some goose on YBIG?

So you go off ratings to judge every performance?

Any Irish fan watching those games remembers how dreadful he was, his performance stood out for being so bad. Cost us a goal in Serbia and couldn't pick a pass against the mighty Luxembourg.

Couldn't pick a pass against mighty Luxembourg? He had a completed pass rate of 86.5% - impressive considering Luxembourg totally bottled up Kenny's naive, outplayed five-man midfield.

Cost us a goal in Serbia? Coleman cost us one of the most embarrassing goals in Irish football history against mighty Azerbaijan in Dublin.

I agree with ratings when they are fair. Try it.

Ciaran has been cut from Newcastle's PL squad, as has Jamal Lewis. Not unexpected after the transfer window business but he does have a contract running into next year.

strange he was cut from Newcastle squad when he came off the bench the other week & did well. But that’s Howe’s choice. Clarke will find another club in time. Decent servant/ player for us but like most defenders there has been goals that we could point finger at him for. Hope gets back playing again soon even if his international days are prob behind him.

Getting a lot of hate from Toon fans for his reaction to meeting Bruno Guimaraes

Looks like he's going on loan to Sheffield United for the last year of his Newcastle contract. Will be interesting to see how he compares to Egan in the same team.

Best wishes to him, was a fantastic professional for Newcastle over the last few years. Key player in the championship season and continued it throughout his time.

Even when being left out of the squad last season he didn't moan and continued to support his team mates and trained well.

Well said. If ever a player needed a break it's Ciaran Clark. He'll do a good job at Sheffield United.

Star man (8) and a goal for Sheff Utd against Coventry. The unlucky, nigh-forgotten and most-abused Irish player of recent history (bar Glenn Whelan, of course) could be back in the premiership next season. That would be a great achievement.

Forgotten maybe, but I don't think Clark is anywhere near the "most abused" player of recent years. Realistically his time has just passed with the younger options ahead of him.
We're decent enough..

I've no issue with his time being up, though if the team was picked on current form (last three games) our CBs would be Collins-Egan-Clark. You're entitled to your take on the abuse thing but he's up there.

I don't really see how even that could be the case, sure he's been out injured for most of the season? Omobamidele has played more than double the amount of games Clark has this season, and O'Shea has played almost 4 times as many games. So even on current form I'd say he's competing with Duffy for 5th choice at best.
We're decent enough..

I said three games. Clark is competing with nobody. He's gone, retired and scapegoated by Stephen Kenny. Almost a badge of honour.

Happy New Year.

He's not retired though, and why would you pick a team based on just the last 3 games? Very strange way of looking at it.
