Delighted for him. I did say he'd bang them in once he broke the duck. Hopefully this new run of form doesn't end anytime soon.

Great to see him hit a run of form, hopefully he can replicate it in a green jersey in June

It was a great finish. Shows the level of confidence he has at the moment to even try a dink.

Lovely finish and great to see him hit a bit of form recently.
I'd say this may be bad news for us though as he has very likely used up all his goals now for the next year or two

I was at the game last night and thought Shane had a good game before going off injured
He took the goal brilliantly but it was typical Shane as he had missed two better chances before he scored

Discussing Shane Long there on talksport, Tony Cascarino said it’s strange as if you compare him to Robbie Keane, Long is a lot better in certain attributes, he’s quicker, better in the air and “at least on a par with him if not better technically”
Absolutely unbelievable stuff that last bit

These few goals should keep him at Southampton for another season. If they were going to sell him you'd expect him to be playing in the Championship

When is his contract up? Southampton could want rid if his wages are too high, if they go down (they won't now though). Example: player on 40k a week with 20% relegation wage reduction clause. Relegated club don't want to pay him 32k. Someone else is willing to pay him but only 20k a week. Relegated club let him go for nothing: they may be paying 12k a week for 12 months, but it's better than paying a sub 32k a week. After the twelve months, he stays on at the new club at 20k a week. That sort of stuff is why Leeds ended up paying players wages after they had left the club on a free: they were still making up the difference in wages. It does happen.
