This is a great read: https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2017/0820/898704-cillian-sheridan/
He'd be worth having in a squad if only to show some of our other players that there's more to football than playing championship or league one. I think he'll make an excellent youth team coach if he stays in the game after he finishes (in 10 years or whenever) - you can't buy the kind of experiences he has had..

He'll be worth having in the squad if he's good enough.
A lot of people on here have a wee fetish for our players playing in leagues other than the English leagues. So lets look at some of those that have, now off the top of my head I can think of Alan Mahon, Ian Harte, Phil Babb, Robbie Keane, Cillian Sheridan, David Connolly, John Aldridge, Jack Byrne... I understand they were at varying stages of their careers, but did these moves in particular do their careers any good? |

The only real success abroad came about for Tony Cascarino, Liam Brady, Mickey Walsh, Don Givens (maybe) and Aldo (although a Liverpool stay would have been much more welcome).
After that, you have Robbie in LA as a maybe.

Depends on how you see it
Keane prob wasted his career going over there as early as he did, but then who could blame him? Mega money, living in LA, being a clubs star man and winning a few titles in the process. His international career was never going to be in jeopardy either. Babb won the league, cup and Super Cup in Portugal! Definitely better than yoyo'ing between premier league/championship. But his career with us was over at that stage anyway. Ian Hartes move didnt really work out, but he became a bit of a fan favorite at least and had a decent spell in England again afterwards. For whatever reason he never played for us again AFTER he moved back to the PL. Steve Finnans was a disaster. Spent the season injured and never really recovered. Retired the season afterwards. David Connolly never really lived up to expectations wherever he went in his career. If anything all the moving around is probably what hampered him from ever playing and scoring consistently. But again, didnt really affect his international career while he was in Holland. Still played in the qualifiers and a World Cup finals! Cascarino probably played his best ever football while in France and that was in his mid to late 30s. If anything his new lease of life is what prolonged his international career! Sheridans is a weird one, hes won leagues and cups playing in Bulgaria and Cyprus and unlucky not to have won the Polish league last season too.. but generally hes been our only consistent player in European competitions in recent years.. and that alone beats living in f**king Perth playing for St Johnstone! But it really has held him back internationally I feel. Before the CSKA move he was breaking into the Ireland squad and would have definately seen more time over the years ahead of the likes of Sammon, Folan, Best, Cox etc.. |

Looks as if he's been shown the door at Jagiellonia after failing to live up to expectations, scoring only 4 goals this season. Apparently he's the club's highest-paid player on €17,000 per month and the Jagiellonia hierarchy believe they can find better value elsewhere.

That's poor form from Jagiellonia considering how well he did for them last year, clearly they have no time to persevere with their man. Sheridan might be better off elsewhere if that's the sort of environment he's in.

Take off the green tinted specs. ;) The club are entitled to take action/get rid of him if he's not performing for them. That's hardly poor form in fairness. Wouldn't mind seeing him play in England and see if how he'd do in the Championship. |

Fairly bad form if true, was phenomenal last season and was the main reason they were still in a title race until the last day. There was literally several game they won by a single goal from him.
He also hasnt really had a rest since the summer before last, played from August 2016 to February 2017 with Omonia then Feb to June with Bialystok... Polish league had 4 weeks off before starting again in July BUT Bialystok had Europa league qualifiers in between so had literally no time off. So between that, injury and not being slected is 4 goals in 1058 mins (Just under 12 games) of football all that bad? |

Exactly, fickle in the extreme from Jagiellonia. If his attitude has gone down the toilet then fair enough, but that doesn't seem to have been the case, just a loss of form.
