Also in before anyone mentions the North - every single person on this would have had Michael O'Neill crucified for his initial results, had they happened to us. Myself included. We don't have that patience. We want long term results in the short term.

If we stuck with MON that would have been ambitious! 7/8 points we would have gotten at a stretch!!

I'm not sure an Irishman with links to Celtic would go down all that well with a lot of Scotland fans.

Are we all militant Proddies that support Rangers then ? You clearly don't know a thing about our support.

We are not overly blessed with talent at the minute and MoN / Keane only took us backwards. The good news is the amount of quality players who may be coming through in the next few years. In the circumstances, 'holding the line' in terms of building pride and morale is significant. If that can be coupled with maybe moving up the rankings for future qualification campaigns - or at least not slipping back - these should be seen as positives. Mick seems very well qualified to perform this task and so far, seems to be doing so very well.

No, but Steve Clarke's (tenuous) "Taig" links provoked enough attention to suggest that Scotland still has a pretty visible sectarian faultline. I think the prospect of an Irish former Celtic player taking over would be more than enough to ruffle a few feathers.

Scotland supporters don't have any problem with having a Catholic manager or having anyone with a Celtic connection involved. I can assure you of that without any doubt. If you like, you can register for the TAMB and ask other supporters outright, they will only tell you the same. Of course if some "oppressed", tin foil hat wearing, paranoid wacko, that lives in a bubble from the lunatic fringe of the Celtic support wants to spin lies that the Scotland support are all a bunch of bigots who hate Celtic and don't want any Catholics in our team then that's their sad wee problem and I can only pity them. I suggest you take a highly educational trip to Rangers Media or Follow Follow and see what they say about our Scottish national team's fans, or as they like to call us "Tartan Tranny ****s". For various stupid reasons they fecking hate us just as much, indeed if not more than they hate YBIG ! The majority of our fans support teams like Aberdeen, Hibs, Dundee Utd, Hearts, Dundee, St Johnstone, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Falkirk, Partick Thistle, Greenock Morton etc etc and have a deeply rooted contempt for all this Old Firm sh*te. Steve Clarke is actually the seventh Roman Catholic to manage Scotland either on a permanent or temporary basis. The others were - Matt Busby, Malky MacDonald, Tommy Docherty, Berti Vogts, Tommy Burns & Malky Mackay. Tommy Burns (a Celtic legend and a devout Roman Catholic) was highly popular with the Scotland fans when he was assistant manager, first under Berti Vogts and then under Walter Smith. Burns was known for often socialising with the fans on away trips and even helping them to find tickets and accommodation. We dearly wish that Tommy Burns was still with us. A former ROI international (Steven Reid) is one of Clarke's coaches with Scotland. I don't know of anyone who gave the slightest toss about Reid's nationality when he took the job. I am glad to have him with us. Hopefully in time he can teach John McGinn how to pass a friggin ball properly !
