Meyler is an extremely reliable and technically proficient player. Always gives you a 6.5 or 7 out of 10 performance.
We're decent enough..

He was outstanding last night. Felt like he was MON's on field personification - carried out the game plan to a tee. Will be badly missed in the first leg of the play-off.

Lads when he cleavered Hennessy last night I thought it was a great yellow card. Slowed the game down at a time when we needed it. He was great and will be missed but he needed to make that tackle

Impressed in last two games, you'd have to imagine MON or Keane had a word with him saying with Whelan not guaranteed starter and McCarthy having fitness issues now is your chance to go out there and claim a place for yourself.

And by hell has he

Has been involved in some of our best results which is surely no coincidence.

Germany x2, Austria, and now Wales.

He's not the most technically gifted footballer, but my god does he have an engine.

Meyler getting a roasting on the second captain podcast and a few other places for his 'they have no heart or courage' statement. What the hell was he on about. That talk didnt work for Conor McGregor and it certainly wasnt going to work for us in a tight play off. There's a good reason why captains usually say nothing at all at press conferences.

Only in Ireland can an average player go from benchwarmer to captain within the space of a couple of games.

Good point. People saying we had no leaders on the pitch, is that really a surprise to anyone? We had Clark and Meyler as captains the last couple of games, neither screams leader or seems that inspiring, seems like it could have been any one of 6 or 7 equally uninspiring choices

He did well in his last couple of games - and always has (especially in his appearances as a sub), IMO - but last night he was out of his depth

I'm not sure who actually has the armband matters, but we have a serious lack of leaders alright. So, apart from the lack of technical quality, the lack of a goalscorer, the lack of a decent midfielder, the problems in defence and the lack of leaders, we would be as good as anyone.
