Sunderland goal: Irish debutant David Meyler slips a fine pass through to Darren Bent, who has timed his run perfectly and keeps his cool to slot past Paul Robinson in the Blackburn goal. Can they hang on to it this time?

it said a few minutes later on the BBC site it wasn't Meyler

http://www.tribalfootball.com/category/clubs/sunderland - Sunderland boss Steve Bruce was pleased with David Meyler on his full debut in their 2-2 draw at http://www.tribalfootball.com/category/clubs/blackburn-rovers - Blackburn Rovers .

The former Cork City midfielder won his chance thanks to a raft of injuries to Bruce's midfield.

"Young David Meyler did very well and Daryl Murphy came in, did well and created a goal. I'm pleased for them," Bruce told safc.com.

"David did very, very well. He's been chomping at the bit waiting for his chance and he was terrific today."

I was at the game and David Meyler had a fine match.

The Murph had his moments as well. Setting up Benty for the first goal and crossing for the same player  @ the death which could have ended up being the winner but for a great interception on Bent.

cork city have had some amount of young players on the books in last few years, through bad management and ownership they could easly have survived
doyle long and surely meyler all  capped after playing with em there are about 8 or 9 others in all the divisons

meyler has a great chance of making it has a great first touch and tackle and has to be if he keeps going along with mccarthy the two stand out talents for us that came through this season.

Yup sure they sold on the 10% selling on fee back to Reading for something like 60k and they would have got 10 times that if they hadn't as Wolves bought him for 6 million.

had to sell it on to save the club at that point in time, look how that worked out in the end.didn't get to see him play much for city as sunderland snapped him up fairly sharpish, brillant seeing the lad doing well and bruce seems to think highly of him, can't be a bad option for us at all

Good to Hear lads, seems he's impressing all the Sunderland fans.

Middle of the midfield or right side of midfield.  Breaks up the play well but also likes to get foward.

Its looking that way as Reidy is not included in the reserves side v Everton tonight. Michael Liddle starts.

Do you think missing Reid was a big part of Sunderland's poor run recently?

Have to say, I never read this thread before and never heard of Meyler until the West Ham game on Sat. I was impressed and I checked up his stats and form and he seems to be decent player, exciting  for next season.
He seems to do the same job as Glenn whelan or am I wrong ??

FFS get a grip. he's played 6 games barely, and got sent of in one after few mins and been subbed on saturday !! And anonymous for U-21s.
Ye make him sound like a household name.
If you look at the first statement in thread  its about him playing in Sunderland reserves !!

The amount of names bandied about on YBIG of lads who played a reserve game or for some random league 2 team, how can ya follow it !! Ridiculous
