But I suspect Liverpool won't be quite so confident as you might expect. And if there's one team who might just upset the odds.....

the Ajax players won't care, they're all off to pastures new in the summer.

Didn't think the game would be anywhere near as dramatic as the night before but it was even more dramatic. I said yesterday that it was depressing watching Liverpool make that comeback and realising the club you support could never achieve the same. To watch Spurs do it the next night was the final straw
A begrudging fair play to Spurs. Could easily have lost the tie, with Ziyech hitting the post and Tadic having a couple of good chances but their 2nd half performance was excellent. As for Ajax, as has already been mentioned, it was a very naive performance defensively from them, and it is probably what makes them so exciting to watch. Even in the first half, they were so open at the back with huge gaps between each of their back 4. The 2 CB's kept crossing over at times which is something you'd give out to amateur players for doing. The first goal, De Ligt gets nutmegged by Rose just outside the Spurs box, a position he should be nowhere near. Game management was an issue that cost them. They had it in the Spurs corner with about 90 seconds left and Tadic loses the ball under little pressure for a goal kick. In the last 5 minutes, Ziyech is trying nutmegs on his half-way line rather than trying to keep it or win fouls. A cruel blow for a young team, that probably won't recover due to the amount of players you'd imagine will leave in the summer. What a week of football.

I would imagine his point is that the final is now just yet another clash between two super rich clubs, as opposed to including a young and exciting Ajax team that tore the likes of Real and Juve to shreds. And as you say it was a one time only thing for this Ajax team, they'll be massacred over the summer with a number of their players moving to the usual top sprinkling of clubs. I still think it'll be a decent final, but as a neutral I was pretty gutted for Ajax last night and would have much preferred the prospect of a Liverpool-Ajax final. Purely based on their performances across the competition those two have been the two best teams in the CL this season.

Great win for Spurs and delighted for Poch. Comes across as a nice fella & his interview afterwards was straight from the heart. Still hope he gets beat in the final though
Just on the end of the game, wtf were Lamela & then Sissoko at?! (Think was Sissoko?) Heart in mount time. Lamela should've just booted it down the line & Sissoko should've brought it into the corner. Got away with both but would've been crucified if anything had come from it Agree about Ajax's game management, should've seen that last minute out better

Think it was the 94th minute were Tadic had it in the corner but decided to turn around and take on his man ball ended up going out for a goal kick next phase of play Spurs score. I'd expect that from one of the younger heads in Ajax team but Tadic should have known better

Up to now Ajax had faced an old, creaking, slow Bayern Munich, an old, creaking, slow Real Madrid, and an old, creaking, slow Juventus.
Those teams were all ripe to be ripped apart.
In the first leg Tottenham were shorn of their best attacker. The second half last night was the first time this Ajax team had to face a Premier League team who were playing at full Premier League pace and really gunning for them. The reality is they were ripped to shreds in that half. Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham are playing football on a different plane to any other teams in Europe. |

Regardless of who they were playing they were basically 3-0 up with 45 minutes to play. Should never have lost the tie from there

"By far"? I was at the game in London. Sure, Ajax were in cruise control in the 1st half (Poch started with a formation dictated by injuries which wasn't working). But after Vertongen went off and (a half-fit) Sissoko came on after 37 mins, Spurs began to turn it round. Now I'm not saying 1-0 was the wrong result of that leg - Spurs couldn't make/finish enough decent chances to deserve anything better. But it wasn't out "by far", either. And I've no doubt that Spurs saw enough in London to keep the faith even when 2-0 behind in Amsterdam, where we were the better team in the second half. You've got to feel huge sympathy for Ajax, but that shouldn't detract from Spurs' contribution over the twp legs, which included some tidy football as well as heart and determination etc

Hoskins: I believe you are an Arsenal fan; with the week of comebacks that's been in it, you'd definitely want to avoid any hubris whatsoever until later this evening.

Entered competition ages ago on Zavvi for VIP trip for 2 people to final, actually forgot all about it till this morning when email dropped telling me I was the winner. Happy days, I thought, then read the small print. Says must be resident of UK (excluding the occupied six). WTF! I have Belfast address, and they're happy to accept plenty of orders from me. Still waiting to hear back, but not very hopeful. Swear to feck, if I fell into a bucket of tits I'd come out sucking my own thumb
