The context here is important. It’s as though people are deliberately trying to forget the peace process. And I suspect it’s for more contemporary political reasons.

Just not any songs that could be slightly critical of the armed struggle.

What's the correlation between the Ireland rugby team and the armed struggle?

None.  The same as there is none between the Irish women’s team or the Leinster rugby team.

And which is why the Zombie is not really appropriate.

And you could say the same about Celtic Symphony or any republican song for that matter.

My view is that let any song be sung whether it Zombie, Celtic Symphony, Sunday Blood Sunday or Sean South.

Saying that that Zombie and Celtic Symphony are both sh*te songs with very little musical merit but that’s just a personnel opinion and people can’t sing them if they like.

My only issue is with the people who think the songs they agree with are fine and the one they don’t like should not be sung.  Double standards.

Zombie was sung at one of the recent Feile nights
Before the Wolfe tones
And not a word about it

Celtic Symphony is not being adopted by the Ireland football supporters as some sort of unofficial anthem.

Apart from the WNT once off, this song is usually only heard at Wolfe Tones gigs.

It was far across the sea,
When the devil got a hold of me,
He wouldn't set me free,
So he kept me soul for ransom.

I actually saw the video of that earlier today.

Almost proof positive that this is manufactured outrage from the twitter brigade, and some sort of contrived backlash after the Celtic Symphony debate.

Wonder how many of the 14 who voted 'no' would have criticised Vera Pauw for the apology last year.

This is what cultural Marxism looks like. .People randomly deciding what is acceptable and what is not.

Let the people sing.

Most people don't analyse lyrics in songs. I don't anyway. I had no idea what Zombie is about but i like the song. I reckon a lot of other people are the same. I never think about what a song is about. Never have. If i like it i like it if i dont i dont

Give it a rest with that sh*te. There is plenty of young people in the North who are still affected by the troubles and are entitled to their opinion as much as the next person, regardless of their age.
