good point, I had forgotten him. Just making the point that we have some serious talent coming up. It won't be long til they are knocking on the door big time.

To be honest I think we need to focus on the present rather than future teams like this.

I like you optimism Tuff. With the likes of Keane and Duffer getting on it's nice to know that there are still some quality players coming through the ranks.

Throw Stokes in for Sammon and i would love to see that team play our first team. Meyler and McCarthy vs Whelan and Andrews? I would fancy the young ones in that battle anyway. |

I dont watch much of the EPL but realistically does anybody think there is a very very good player in that group? I mean is there a Denis Irwin, a Roy Keane, an Andy Townsend coming thru? I think McCarthy looks like he'll be a decent player. Coleman havent seen much of him but I hear he's bad defensively. Ian Harte springs to mind. I hope Cunningham matures into a solid defender. Seems like a nice lad aswell. Clifford I hope makes it as a top senior player. Hope he doesnt end up an unfulfilled talent. He looks very good in the video on youtube. Jaysus we were spoiled for choice in the 80's/early 90's. Mick McCarthy would do well with the players coming thru I think. Seems to get the best out of players he has with limited ability. Except Roy obviously who only gets on with dogs. |

There is huge potential in that squad in my opinion - Meyler, McCarthy, Cunningham, Coleman, Long, Stokes in particular. They are far from limited Comparing Coleman to Ian Harte |

I think McCarthy and Coleman are our two brightest sparks who can help this country develop. Haven't seen too much of the rest play, but for their age both these lads are playing top level football and looking very very good!

Don't forget Chris McCann who was showing real progress before he got injured early last season. I still have hopes for Garvan too.

I'd put Chris McCann on the bench as well.

We defo have some bright talent coming through. I don't think we should just concentrate on the senior players because some of the players mentioned should be probably starting for us. Hopefully whoever comes in after Trap is more willing to try out youngsters and players who are actually doing well at club level because this is the first time I can remember that we had some many players coming through with great potential to not only be very good players but top players

What's "young" though? Are we talking Olympics young (U/23) or younger? And are we excluding the younger established members of the current team (i.e. McGeady?) Gk's can be excused as they're freaks of nature anyway.
Assuming all that....a team for starting the Euro2016 qualifiers in Sept2014:
-------------------Westwood-------------------
Foley--------Clark----------Duffy--------Greg
----------------------Meyler---------------------
----------Clifford-------------McCarthy--------
Coleman---------------------------------Treacy
----------------------Stokes---------------------
With the likes of Robbie Brady, Chris McCann, Mark Wilson, shane Long, Owen Garvan, and surely a few others to come to prominence as well.

Coleman is going to be superb. The way he has forced his way into the Everton first team so quickly. He has really made Moyes think.
And I wasn't just thinking about age - I meant options that are coming up. |
