Wexford v Limerick in farcical postponementMonday, 6 October 2008 20:50
The match between Wexford Youths and Limerick 37 has been called off after a disagreement over the pre-game warm up for the away side.
Limerick 37 said that they were told by Wexford that a pre-match warm-up was not possible on the main playing surface.
An alternative area to warm-up was suggested, but this was deemed unsafe by Limerick and in the end they refused to carry out the fixture.
A club statement read: 'The team were informed that they would be unable to carry out their pre match warm up on the main playing surface.'
'As the alternative warm-up area suggested was deemed unsafe for health and safety reasons due to poor lighting, Limerick 37 made a request to warm up on the main playing surface to the match referee.
The statement continued: 'The match referee confirmed he had absolutely no issue with the team warming up on the main playing surface. Despite this assurance from the referee the Wexford Youths stewards refused access to the pitch to the Limerick FC players and management.'
Limerick confirmed that they could not go through with the fixture without a proper warm-up and the match was called off.

Manchester United bottom in local fans survey while Bolton spring a shock
Does your town have a branch of the Bolton Wanderers Supporters' Club?
By Telegraph staff and agencies
Last Updated: 10:17AM BST 25 Sep 2008
Conventional wisdom suggests that Gary Megson's side have few fans outside of
Bolton, but a new internet survey has made some interesting geographical
revelations about Premier League supporters.
Unsurprisingly, Manchester United come bottom of the list when it comes to
local support. Just 20 per cent of United fans in the survey were
from Manchester.
But Bolton-based Wanderers fans make up just 57 per cent of the club's
supporters, placing them sixth from bottom in the table.
Liverpool are the only side to come close to United in the amount of
supporters from outside their home city or town.
Just 22 per cent of Liverpool fans are Liverpudlians, making Rafa Benitez's
side second from bottom. Their neighbours Everton are fifth from bottom with
55 per cent.
The other members of the Premier League's Big Four - Chelsea (49 per cent) and
Arsenal (55 per cent) - are 18th and 17th respectively.
Top of the table are Hull City. With local fans making up 88 per cent of the
club's support base, Hull benefit from being a one-club town. Indeed, Hull
FC, the city's rugby league team, are perhaps the main rivals for Phil
Brown's side in terms of attracting fans.
Stoke City, promoted alongside Hull last season, are second with 85 per cent,
while Wigan are third with 80 per cent.
