Just finished , Vietnam: An Epic Tragedy. Max Hastings. Very comprehensive book on the turmoil there between 1945-1975.

I recall someone mentioning a book on Pirates invading Baltimore, Cork. Tried searching back through the thread but cant find it. Anyone know the name of it?

The Underground Railroad:
It’s an excellent book but it’s pretty grim. It’s a fictionalised account of a slave born in Georgia pre abolition and her attempts to escape. It’s vivid and disturbing but brilliantly written.

1312: Among the Ultras
An intrepid journalist travels a heap of countries and meets some of the worlds most extreme football ultra groups. It’s interesting as most of them are in a battle to survive in the face of commercialisation, government crackdowns and invasive surveillance. I was left on the fence about how I felt about it. In one sense, you want to see the likes of Neo Nazis and violent criminals chased out of the game. On the other hand, the heavy handed nature of the authorities actions coupled with corporate interest is killing the atmosphere in stadias and removing the game from its traditional working class roots.

Reading Cujo by Stephen King. I find King books very hit and miss but this is a good one.

Not a big fan of the random anti-Irish slurs that seem to pop up in all of his books and serve little to no narrative purpose. Or the casual use of the N word that pops up in a lot of his books. Or the sexualisation of minors - the infamous orgy in It being the most egregious example.

I remember watching an interview with him from years back on YouTube where he was casually throwing out anti-Asian slurs and he literally made a slant-eye gesture.

How has this guy not being called out all these years he's been ranting about Donald Trump being racist on Twitter?

LOL

Arrigo Sacchi's book published in English recently.  Just got my hands on it.  Very interesting look at the Milan 89-90 Immortals.  Great complimented with YouTube binge!

American Tabloid by James Ellroy.

Love his writing style. You have to really pay attention because the books are so densely written.

The Cold Six Thousand is the sequel and maybe his best book. The final book in the trilogy is Bloods a Rover and that also quite good.

LA Confidential is also very good.
