It would be a last resort for a club and they would face sanctions if they apply for it which have yet be decided . Its some safety for the players at least. But how about the FAI properly regulate the league when firing out licences ? The FAI are proposing a pot of 300000 euros which the PFAI will have to come up with half of if it agrees. Count out to a nice bita money like.

So it's never gonna happen. FAI only proposed this because they know the PFAI haven't got that kinda cash and it's just a dick measuring contest with the FAI saying put up or shut up to the PFAI while treating the league as the unwanted redheaded step child that they see it as.

get loads of loi fans together and start boycotting and picketing the home internationals. Bit of f**king protest to get on the bastards nerves, there’s plenty of non loi fans hate that f**ker too.cant beat a bit of disorder to focus the mind of our wonderful sporting media.

Is there any possibility the clubs could break away from the FAI?

And do what? The FAI would probably just nominate the Leinster Senior league as the new national league to get around the rule of international teams needing a national league.

There's talks of a new company being set up to run the league, a way to take 100% control away from the FAI and get the clubs more involved so hopefully something positive comes from that and it's not just the FAI creating a "company" to stick FAI men into and claim it's "independent" like the whole licence farce.

How the Icelandic FA's approach to their domestic league differs from ours.

I don't know the numbers but I'd the number of 14/15/16 year old lads travelling back and forth to England for trails and then signing is possibly zero so in Iceland they've got develop their own players and hope the best 18/19 year olds get picked up by European clubs and then those that don't leave at 18/19 get to develop in iceland and hopefully get picked up at 21/22.

Here the FAI just rely on English clubs because you've got vast amounts of Irish players leaving as teenagers that surely one or two might make it or a lad who qualifies for Ireland chooses us because he's not good enough for England.

Belgium is a country that is half the size of Ireland but has nearly 3 times the population and the work they do at underage to make sure players don't slip through the cracks puts Ireland to shame. At every age group they have an A and B team, where the best of the best play for the A team but only players born in the last couple of months in the year can play for the B team as they've noticed that most players born towards the end of the year don't develop as fast as those born in January or February so have a team just for late developers.

Studying and then at least attempting to implement the practices that have been shown to have borne fruit in other small footballing nations would appear to be a no-brainer.

Sadlier and Kenny think we should get the government involved.
