We're hardly gagging for their jobs.

I don't think the vintners etc really fear them to be honest. Fair to say the decent pubs seem relatively bulletproof, I can only think of the Bottler's Bank in Rathgar as one that packed it in over the pandemic.

Yeah I'll withdraw that point, talking out of my hole there.

What I mean is I can't think of any good ones that closed in the city centre off the top of my head.

Whilst I agree with your sentiment towards them, fact is that Irish publicans continue to rip off punters for drink and indeed food. They have placed themselves in an ivory tower where they charge what they like. Another sad fact is that, and I know a few oul lads in this predicament, that for some, to have a few pints means they have to darken the local Wetherspoons. 6 pints in there is 3 in their ‘local’.

While that continues, there is unfortunately a place for them.

DM doesn't even live in Ireland. It would be like me posting links every fortnight about Asda opening a new store in Grimsby.

I was in the one in Abbey Strret last night - soul less kip. Cheap and Cheerless. Lot of heavy drinkers and south American students in the dump.

Spoons is grand over here, nothing compared to some of the dumps in the UK that pass for a pub.

Most people probably drink in one of several Irish pub chains without even realizing, Louis Fitzgerald or the Mercantile groups aren't much better. If you're happy to pay €7 a pint for a spot that has tatty bits of Irish / pub memorabilia and a battered bar / furnishing for some character the jokes on you.

Its like people that shop in Dunnes or Tesco and scoff at Lidl or Aldi shoppers despite the food being just as good if not better in some instances.

Some Spoons are kips, in the same sense some other Irish pubs are kips.

Dont tar them all with one brush.

Besides most the time a decent night out is made by your company, if someone is f**king moaning their head off about the place of course its going to be a sh*te night!

Some of the best nights I've had were in dumps on aways, sh*tholes in Glasgow or Leeds or the back arse of nowhere in Kazakhstan!
