Yep, nobody other than “bums and scruffs” have ever or will ever have a pint in Wetherspoons.Confused
It's nothing but scruffs in Cork anyway.

We were in the Wetherspoons in Blackrock last year and whilst the pints were dirt cheap they were muck - and we all decided to go elsewhere.

Were you not laughing at people for using their bank cards for paying for pints?
It would damage this forums' reputation

Have never been into a Wetherspoons here so just wondering for those who have, are the bar staff of a similar standard as those in the UK?

Only been to the ones in Cork really. As it's all table service, they're not Barmen/Barmaids, they're waitresses really.

I get the idea if you are only popping for a sandwich and 4 pints at lunchtime on a Monday but surely not a viable option for a night out then? Have you been in the one at Blanch?

I was in their pub in swords a few years back. Fake decor trying to make the place look like authentic Irish pub. Can't remember the standard of service so mustn't have been too bad. A couple of pints and we moved on.

Delighted to see the level of opposition to them in this thread. Wetherspoons are an absolute cancerous scourge on this island and should be mercilessly driven from our shores as soon as possible. I'll happily pay over the odds on pints to deny them any revenue ever.

To add, anyone Irish who darkens their doors here and gives them business would want to be taking a good hard look at themselves. No shame.

I was recently in Wakefield on route to a Sunderland match at Rotherham and next door to the Wetherspoons pub there was an old boarded up pub.

That's what Spoons price policy does to the local economy sadly.

Exactly, which is why it's nowhere near good enough for people to make the "ah sure aren't the pints cheap" argument.

I don't particularly like spoons and the chairman is odious but who else was going to go up 8 buildings in Dublin for instance?

They create employment and typically take over places that aren't do well. Pubs don't have a right to exist, if they're any good a bit of competition shouldn't scare them.
