I'm kinda disappointed. Want Rovers to get them and smash them in the group stages. The manner of their exit was hilarious though, it has to be said!

Glenavon played a 13 year old in a senior competitive match last night? I get that it's northern Irish football and the standard is probably absolutely hopeless, but there needs to be some kind of rule against that.

Christopher Atherton is the kid. Broke the previous UK record held by the then 14 yr old Eamon Collins at Blackpool. Atherton came on as a sub and had an assist in a 6-0 win over Dollingstown in the League Cup, they’re several leagues down and were not serious opposition. Glenavon manager Gary Hamilton throws in kids if he thinks they are good enough and some come through. I think Mark Sykes was 16 when he came into the team. The standard in the Irish League is not at all bad these days with some of the wealthier clubs going full-time.

In the particular circumstances outlined by Green Cockade, it may not have been that outrageous a move.

But I agree that as a general rule, no-one under the age of 16 should be allowed to play adult mens football.
