You'd have to feel sorry for Marissa Callaghan, the NI women's captain. Having previously admitted how uncomfortable she feels having to stand for GSTQ every time she represents them she has now had to issue a press release defending that absolute nonsense from Kenny Shiels.

There might be some science behind it but especially how things are and the rise in equality in the women's game, how did he not cop on that his would eat those words?

Fun fact: His son, Dean, is blind in one eye. One of two pro footballers I can think of who are blind in one eye, Omar Elabdellaoui being the other one.

Gordon Banks played for a year after being blinded in one eye in a car crash. Tostao of Brazil likewise, I think, after a detached retina suffered when hit by a ball during a match. Dean Sheils no longer plays, he is the manager of Dungannon Swifts in the Irish League.

A "bigot", is it?

Says who?

The people at Glen GAC in Maghera, for whom he played Gaelic football as a youngster?

Or Oran Kearney, whom he welcomed iinto the family when OK married his daughter?

Or the people at Derry City FC, whokm he managed for 3 years?

Or maybe Cliftonville's Marissa Callaghan, the openly gay GAA playing midfielder whom he made his captain for NI?

The IRA man who murdered his (civilaian) brother, Dave, might have thought so, but that's par for the course in those quarters.

So whatever Shiels' propensity for putting his foot in it with statements like the other day, fact is, there is absolutely no reason for labelling him a "bigot".

Which in the light of your other posting history, forces me to conclude that you have smeared him thus solely because he's a Prod.

Which is the very definition of irony.

It is in the NI context, at least when it comes from people like BD88.

Or maybe he just couldn't spell Misogynist?

bigot

“A person who is obstinately or unreasonably attached to a belief, opinion, or faction, especially one who is prejudiced against or antagonistic towards a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group”.

To summarise, Kenny Shiels.

Really? Never took Dallas for being that dirty of a player tbh.

Nothing stands out from memory anyway.
