Valid stuff.. I like Stephen Hunt's attitude.. he also spoke highly of Venables from what he heard from his Reading team mates Nicky Shorey..

Venables will be sellin cars on the Long Mile Road if he gets the job
|
The sequence now is, should he miss this, and Ireland's next penalty is scored, then the match and the progress are Ireland's....Timofte against Bonner..

[ QUOTE=Catman] Venables will be sellin cars on the Long Mile Road if he gets the job[/QUOTE]
He probably will be Catman ..but as long as he's around for 6 to 8 matches a year, he'll be alrite. He's got both Club and International management experience. He woulda been English manager after Euro 96 if it wasn't for him and HoneyMonster's brother, Alan Sugar dragging each other through the courts. I reckon he'll defo get the respect of players. As well as selling cars and dodgey watches, he used to play league of Ireland football for St. Pats ( albeit only 2 games). He was a bit unlucky with Australia and Leeds was already a sinking ship. Apart from this, he has done well almost everywhere given the resources at his disposal...bring on Venables is what I say

Look if you think that the Marcello Lippis, Alex Fergusons and Arsene Wengers of this world are going to be interested in the Irish Job then your living in Cloud Cuckooland.
El Tel is a proven manager both in the UK and Spain and at international level. What are the alternatives ?
Paul Jewell? A one hit wonder at Wigan ( failed at Bradford and Wednesday)..kept a sh1te team up on a small budget BIG DEAL.. he fecked off in the summer due to "Stress" more like he knew that it's inevitable that the Pie Eaters are going get relegated eventually (steve Coppell and David Moyes have feck all cash and they did better than Jewell). He ain't even third rate not to mind second rate. If he was so good why didn't he get approached by Bolton/foreign teams when they had a vacancy?
Houllier? Fair enough to an extent at club level ( until he got fired by LFC for wasting millions on a load of crap players, then he inherited a successful team from Paul Le Guen and he managed to nearly fk that up too - granted they won two titles under him in Lyon but that was mostly because the other teams were useless )..... but at International level he was a failure.. He's also been out of the game since last season while Venables has kept his hand in as AM to Malcolm McClaren...
Souness or O'Leary ? Don't make me laugh
At least with Venables, what you see is what you get in terms of his Cockney Character. Don't give me that he's English sh1te either. There's nobody good enough from this country at the moment to manage the national team that wants the job, i.e. Martin O'Neill does not want the job. Name me one other person who would be realistically interested in this job that's more qualified than El Tel or else it's -
Venables for Ireland and Second hand cars on the Long Miler and fake roelexes on Moore Street all the way !! Rant Over. P.s. You owe me a bottle of ballygowen which I intend to collect

Why does every thread end up picking our new manager???!!
Well said Hunty. Great to see these younger lads (McShane, Hunt, Doyle & Long etc) showing a bit of pride and passion when playing for their country. The older, spoilt lads could learn a lot from his wise words.
Hunty for captain & stop whinging Robbie!!!
