I'd like to agree but it goes against the evidence from our best performance under SK by a stretch, in Slovakia.
For this reason alone I'd have them both start with Cullen in behind as we should be looking to replicate that performance.

Also in that match it was McCarthy withdrawn first, along with McClean (on a yellow), being replaced by Brady and Browne and we were even more dangerous then and really should have scored from open play.

As fans we all have our feels but we need our manager to act off facts and stats and the facts discount that the two lads cannot be together in an effective midfield.

That is true, but my main disagreement with that was McGoldrick was playing up front and constantly dropping deep, essentially playing almost as an advanced midfielder, papering over the issues in midfield.

Yeah there's no doubt the McG effect there helped us.
The only player we have in that mold would be Parrott...

Spot on. I think we'll see him utilised in the McGoldrick role or as a number 10 over the course of the window at some point. Seems tailor made and only obvious replacement.

Very hard to call how we will line up alright. Lots of big calls to be made.

Doherty or Coleman?
Duffy dropped?
Who to play up front?
Hendrick or Hourihane or both?
Who will replace Randolph?

As others have said not many guaranteed starters apart from Enda Stevens I would say. Of all the calls I would be most disappointed if he went with both Hendrick and Hourihane, two men who have really been anonymous for us. Hourihane is in good form so I would expect him to start but I think starting Jeff with him is asking for trouble as they have never played well together.

I'd go with:
Kelleher
Coleman O'Shea Clark Stevens
Browne Cullen Hourihane
Robinson Long McClean

I can see the logic in starting Doherty right midfield but it will leave us very light up top, if we are starting with McClean on the left I think we need the other winger to be someone who is somewhat of an attacking threat such as Robinson or O'Dowda.

Thank God there not open. Last thing i need after what i suspect will be a comprehensive defeat is some knob of Gaa/rugby prick making fun of the Irish team. You the type " how could watch that rubbish".... nothing like a " good game of hurling". After a few pints on me i tend to lash out a bit so i am quite pleased pubs are shut for this international window.

Every pub seems to have a couple if not more of these type of snakes, I have had a few words with similar gobdaws on a couple of occasions over the years in my own local who have gone over the top with their gloating and then they get personal when you show them up

That's when they've lost the argument. If they're pro-rugger or gah heads just say to them that nobody outside of Ireland gives a fook about gah achievements or some token win against New Zealand in Chicago by the Ireland rugby team who again would fail to live up to expectations in the rugby world cup when it really counts.

These gobdaws if they were old enough during Italia 90 were probably dancing in the streets.

Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

If that's true unlikely that Westwood will be in squad if Kelleher is fit.

@Baldrick

I know you're supportive of Kenny but do you think it would be a mistake if Kenny fails to call up either Westwood or McGeady if Kelleher/Idah & Connolly are ruled out by injury?

For me it's an absolute necessity they should be in the squad at least given how depleted we are in those two areas.

I think Westwood should start if Kelleher is out and I wouldnt agree with Kenny if he doesnt give him a call.

McGeady less so and I dont expect to see him in the squad and I can see why.

I am not more supportive of Kenny than any other Ireland manager.  Just think he should be given a chance no more and no less.

McGeady is a no brainer. He has to be in the squad . There are going to be players at league 1 level in the squad and he is afar and away better than any of them at the moment - in fact he’s probably the best player in the league. He also has a wealth of experience . As has been said many a time he’s probably the only player we have that could beat a few men and score a goal

I'd be the same and I do think in general he still has the support of the vast majority of Irish supporters.

I'm not expecting Kenny to pick both and it's definitely more important he gets Westwood into the team if I had to pick one.

It's a more vital position especially for this away game when we need a keeper who's relatively proven over Bazanu/Lawlor.

I do think he is still making a big mistake if he doesn't pick McGeady who's playing regularly and has that natural dribbling ability that no other player in our squad has.

considering the players we have available at the moment McGeady is more than worth a place in the squad.
One of the few playing week in week out and playing well at that. Granted it’s league 1 but a lot of our lads that are supposedly playing at a higher level are bit part players at their clubs.
