The point isn't whether Keane's comments are true. It's whether he should be saying them in public at all.

I guess people forget that managers used be as blunt as spoons when making assertions. In the modern era, all pro footballers are subject to a certain type of immunity from pundits and managers, who are constantly supporting players no matter what the circumstances.

Honestly, Im not sure one can gripe about Keane saying some of those things. Objectively, the result was embarrassing, as was the performance. As was said previously, there are many on the plane by default, and that they need to earn their stripes.

There's no logical benefit to the team of Keane's comments regarding McGeady, for example. Other than Roy getting some personal praise for being "straight-talking" etc. of course..... At the same time, the players should have a thick skin about it, but Roy also needs to be more measured when speaking publicly.
We're decent enough..

Why not though ? He has got people talking about it by going public . The players in question will , most likely , try to prove the doubters wrong . I can't see any negative in going public in this instance ..

How many top managers will sl*g off their players in public?

Should be kept in the dressing room end of story.

Thought that myself, Roy getting his piece in early in case all goes wrong in france. he can then walk away Clean, regardless the guys should be thick skinned and positive reinforcement doesn't sit with the public persona

Speaking the truth is hardly sl*gging off. McGeady has been f**king awful since Georgia away and very lucky to be in France. He was right to call out tbe one or two players who had themselves classed as good players and did f**k all against Belarus.
Eamonn Dunphy:"I'll tell you who wrote it, Rod Liddle, he's the guy who ran away and left his wife for a young one".

Bill O'Herlihy: Ah ye can't be saying that now Eamonn

In fact, Keane has summed up McGeady.

Here is a man who has totally fallen from favour at a club who certainly failed to impress this season, before being deemed surplus to requirements at a Championship Club, before their season ended. Both clubs have had their say, and McGeady has played a handful of games all season, with 2014-2015 not being much better. McGeady's place on the plane was dubious to say the least.

Ditto his Everton colleague Darron Gibson. Another player who seems unwilling to settle for less than employment at a PL Club, regardless of whether he is playing or not. A regular starting spot in the Championship would have nailed on his place on the plane, as he is a decent player.

Keane may be the devil on the shoulder of Irish football, and that comes with a degree of honesty, which may sound like criticism.

Example?

Keane needs to pipe down and behave like an assistant and that is to work with the players and manager in the back ground.

I've a feeling this whole tournament is going to about Keane, for all the wrong reasons too.

Of course it will.... Jesus you really can't accept any criticism of McGeady can you ? Guarantee if Roy had said the same about anyone else you wouldn' be feeling the same way.
