We seem to have a lot of young talent. How many make the step up is the issue.

That question is answered by looking at post 1 in this thread.... it gives a list of our U21 and U19 squads from Sept 2014. (There has been 3 years for these players to develop).

There are about 40 players listed aged between 18-21 who are now 21-24

Of that list a grand total of zero have made the step up to full international. Worse is that none actually look like they ever will, except (maybe) Sean Maguire

edit; Here's the list from 2014;

Sean Maguire is in the current squad, though your point remains. I think that Ian Lawlor definitely will, then you are looking at a few maybes like Hoban and Darragh Lenihan.

I'd say Lawlor, Hoban, O'Connell, the two Lenihans, and even Byrne despite his recent setbacks, all have a reasonable chance of earning senior caps, so not disastrous.
We're decent enough..

Just read that's he's eligible for Romania too, good to see young lads with Nigerian, Cameroonian, Polish, Romanian parents etc either all born here or having moved here as small kids lining out for Ireland Clap

He's a Dub through and trough though. His mother's family are all Ballymuners, his father is Romanian.

Oh yeah I'm not questioning that, but you know yourself we've been blessed getting UK born players in the same situation as Danny is with us, the option for him to jump ship to Romania is there so I'm merely saying it's great seeing these lads line out for us and not the land of their parent/parents.

Yeah id say the chance of him playing for Romania is slim and none all the same.

Ballymun lad Danny Mandroiu scored for Brightons u23 against Oxford tonight . Good player.

Well that's a bit of a contradiction there.

He could easily declare for Romania too but thankfully he hasn't.

How it is a contradiction he was born and reared in a ballymun family who are all Irish . Just because his father happened to be Romanian dosent mean he's any less a Dub. Would you say the same about Paul McGrath or Curtis Fleming ?

Pretty key component though isn't it, the father, when discussing ones family ?

You mean his mother's Irish in other words. Or are his Romanian dad's parents Irish too?
