Their going to get pasted. This crisis won’t be over after a few weeks. It will deteriorate and like any government on its last legs will suck the marrow out of the five year term. The loaned votes will flood back to Labour, and London is already gone from them. I don’t think the Tories will drop into the double digits, but low triple digits.

2019 speaks for itself. The Tories basically aligned themselves on the ‘right’ side of the Brexit mood, on the slogan of ‘get Brexit done.’ You wanted it done, they were going to do it. It is as simple as that, they had their finger on the pulse on what was a single issue election. Now, they have a disastrous tenure on a number of issues, and a tenuous hold on the seats that gave them the majority. Brexit is over, so they can’t go Trumpian on the sloganeering. It’s amazing to watch Tory-phants point to ‘global economic issues’ when 12 l years ago they were lining up to cry foul at Brown when he was making the same claims.

It's like she's reading one of those punctuation exercises in primary school where you have to add in the punctuation but she doesn't know how to do it correctly and just throws in random pauses every now and again.

I think it depends on the mentality shift. A prime example is the RMT strikes, which has usually been a source of annoyance and frustration for the public. Not this time. Also, the Tories have to hold seats that they won on the back of Brexit. They have been forced into coalition and confidence and supply in two of the past four elections, and 2015 was not particularly comprehensive.

👍 James was saying on this morning's show that if the current opinion polls were reflected in a general election the Tories would only get 61 seats!

Polls will fluctuate before the next GE but difficult to envisage the Tories recovering from this implosion. Even the Daily Telegraph political editor was on tv last night saying that he smelled blood in the water and that there were clandestine moves being made in the background. I’m not sure how Truss can be removed under the current rules though of course the party could change the rules. Kwarteng could be facing other problems including accusations of insider trading. He is rumoured to have tipped off private finance leaders including his former boss Crispin Odey in advance of the mini budget with the result that hedge funds made hundreds of millions in a day, as they did with Brexit. On top of which he has been proven to have lied about OBR consultation. Fun and games are coming on Monday.

Truss -Spoken like a true Tory.
Just 37% of 2019 Tory voters said they would now vote for the Conservatives. Veteran Tory MP Sir Charles Walker said if the poll lead was repeated at an election, the Conservatives will “cease to exist as a political party”. After days of silence during Labour’s conference in Liverpool, Truss embarked on a round of local BBC radio interviews in which she insisted her economic policy was on the right course, despite the need for emergency intervention from the Bank of England. In her first public statements since warnings from the International Monetary Fund and the Bank’s intervention to prevent a run on pension funds, Truss said she was “prepared to take difficult decisions” and would not change her approach despite pressure. After hearing about the financial concerns of multiple listeners, she insisted that people would feel the benefits in the longer term. “This is the right plan that we have set out,” Truss told BBC Radio Norfolk. “Of course, there will always be people who will oppose a particular measures. And it’s not necessarily easy. But we have to do it.” |

Just doubling down on everything. Coming out still and blaming world events, war in Ukraine etc for all of the market turmoil. The markets then think, rightly, that they have no clue what is going on.
