UK PLC is slowly grinding to a halt. No surprise given the idiotic decision to leave the customs Union and single market. Nissan tonight have announced they are stopping production for a few days due to difficulties getting parts delivered. Honda having similar difficulties. Sky also reporting cross channel traffic is down by a 1/3 in January. Only 1 truck and trailer and a few unaccompanied trailers on the Pembroke to Rosslare ferry last night. Just a snippet of the clusterf**k.
And yet the ordinary joe doesn't give a f**k. Combined with the pandemic mass unemployment is around the corner. Good news for nationalists in Ireland and Scotland.

My thoughts exactly Moreso they have a force of 1000 workers per shift pattern in a contained space, not exactly adhering to the guidelines. My friends who work in there says there's no such thing as a global pandemic going on in there when they re-opened in March. Also Brexit has nothing to do with them closing shop until Monday from what I've heard - It's the 3rd party stuff like logistics who have furloughed workers thus slowing down delivery times apparently. These companies have taken note of the rules and realised delivering car parts isn't an essential job.

devastating news for birkenhead this evening with vauxhall on the verge of pulling the pin. the boss is blaming brexit and says it may make more sense moving production to the eu which is its biggest market. they employ 1,000 people at its ellesmere port plant across the mersey from liverpool with thousands more employed in businesses linked to the plant. chickens are coming home to roost for brexiteers. |

Brexiteers won't give a f**k - there are no votes for them on Merseyside, and they've always wanted to run Liverpool into the ground anyway

It's not Brexit related at all! Much like the Nissan thing posted a while back! It's more Nissan has the monopoly on the electric car market when the Govt are outright banning petrol and diesel cars to be sold in the UK from 2030 onwards.
UK made batteries are allowed in EU cars, just the logistics can be awkward with the UK being an island from anywhere else. They're starting from ground zero in that market and I don't think they want to chance it. Nissan are saying Brexit is good for the car industry - I mean they would say that having a monopoly on the entire thing but hardly Brexit related.

They're not gonna make anything from a car which is banned to sell in that country because it's made in that country, so ofcourse they're gonna pack up and leave to the EU and then ship over to the UK. If we fast forwarded time 9 years from now, the only car you can buy which was made in this country is the Nissan Leaf. Hardly a flourishing market.

with all due respect if this was about building battery factories to save the industry it would get done. the fact of the matter is brexit has made ellesmere port unprofitable. carlos tavares the head of the business has said as much in the past. honda are shutting swindon in july. don't be surprised to see other car manufacturers shutter factories in the not too distant future.

channel 4 news this week has been highlighting the different sectors that face disaster now never mind in the future. Last night was shellfish industry in Scotland, pigs, cheese and bees where a man had bought £300,000 worth of bees before brexit and now can’t import them and is taking a punt on sending them through Ireland to England.
This is only going to get worse and coronavirus won’t be top story to cover it up.

That area is a real mix though. I think the council is constantly flipping from red to blue. It is the interesting melange of leafy Cheshire NIMBYism and 'woolyback' former dockers. You hear Tranmere fans talking about the disparity in the Wirral a lot as does their most famous fan, Nigel Blackwell, address it in his lyrics.

Overnight Vauxhall have decided Brexit isn't so bad afterall and just want extra cash from Boris to stay put. How convenient!
Both parties want to convert the factory into the 2nd car battery production it's a case of how much can Vauxhall can bribe Boris.

Note how all the tax freezes are until 2026. In a nutshell, once COVID has calmed down and the Tories have won their majority again without even trying - Literally everyone's getting taxed to hell.
On a selfish note, getting told you're getting a £500 payment as I work part-time is a nice thing to wake up to, he's a canny lad that Sunak is.

I see Salmond wants to set up a separate anti-UK political vehicle, the Alba party.
I've never really understood why the SNP receives such widespread popularity in Ireland. Quite apart from the Nats' repugnant political philosophy and fascistic history, Scotland are and have always been an imperialist force, as they were even prior to joining the UK, with their Darien Scheme project in the 17th century in Panama. And that's even before we consider Scotland's attempt to invade Ireland in the 14th century. They then went on to play a leading role at the vanguard of British imperialism. Weren't at least half a dozen of Britain's viceroys to India Scottish? And they then went on to colonise the 6 counties, committing the most appalling atrocities, as anyone who's read books on the subject knows. Nearly every high-profile Unionist has a Scottish name. But yeah, Scotland are the *victims* of colonialism rather than the perpetrators of it according to the Nats and many Irish people. I find this attitude vastly more repugnant than when you see English c**ts' chauvinistic revelling in their imperialist past. At least they aren't posing as the victims. Scotland's history is not Ireland's history. But just why do so many Irish people buy into the Scottish 'victim' narrative? Is it just sheer stupidity and ignorance, or are more sinister forces at work? Edited by NewtNewbie - 27 Mar 2021 at 7:06am |
