There's a huge difference between played 53 games and featured in 53 game. 16 of his PL games were from the bench.

However you measure it, that's still a hell of a lot for a teenager to cope with.

And I don't just mean the physical side of things - indeed youngsters can often cope with that better than veterans.

Rather it is the psychological pressure it imposes, esp at a huge club like MU with all their expectations, and under a manager like Mourinho:
"Will I start or will I not?" "Will I stay on or will I be subbed?" "Will I get on, or will I be kept on the bench?" "Will it be on the wing, or through the middle?" "Christ, they really need a goal from me." "F**k me, I'm coming on for Rooney - Wazza's not going to like that..."

Week in week out for 10  months under the most intense scrutiny, that can mess with anyones head...

Actually think the Germans knew exactly what they were doing, they were through lost the game 1-0 to finish best runner up and now play England instead of Spain

Germany starting to control the game now, wouldn't mind seeing extra time then penalties.

Eamonn Dunphy:"I'll tell you who wrote it, Rod Liddle, he's the guy who ran away and left his wife for a young one".

Great experience for the rest of their careers alright. I was shocked to hear they don't practice penalties, especially as the old 'you can't replicate the situation' excuse was used, sure why bother training at all then?
