I think McCarthy coming out with the narrative of Connell only hanging around for the week is just a smokescreen. I think he's told connell he's only around for the week to keep him on his toes but he has every intention of keeping him for the upcoming matches.

Both Josh Cullen and Connell will be capped against Gibraltar and I wouldn't be surprised if Josh Cullen started in Whelan's sitting role against Gibraltar.

Hope its the case of capping the 2 players but its possible it wont happen and we could have another nervous wait with Southgate lurking around for Connell

Lose 1 keeper, call up two! LOL Obviously MON started a trend.

Fair play to O'Leary all the same, hasn't got his passport yet apparently but is coming along to train all the same (take note P. Bamford...). Only 22 and finished the season as Bristol City's number 1, which is all promising.

Whelan will start. But I suspect Cullen could start against Gibraltar, with Connell being capped later on in the match.

It would be interesting though if Whelan picked up an injury, cause besides himself, only Cullen/Connell could be considered our remaining sitting midfielders left in the squad.

Is Connell staying on then? Thought he was only there for the camp

Check out McCarthy's interview on FAI Twitter. He all but said he was staying.

Sounds positive, now cap him regardless

Connell should be starting both games anyway. Then, once we have seen him we can start calling for Crowley again, who will remain miles better than him until he gets capped. It's all tremendous fun!
