David Walsh doing a full Dunphy 180 degree turn on Froome today and apologises for ever doubting him. This is after several years of being Sky's main cheerleader, before turning the other way after the various Fancy Bears/Wiggins/Froome related incidents over the past year, and now back to the full on cheerleading.

Suppose he may as well enjoy it while it lasts, to cut through all the bollix, it looks like Sky/Froome were prepared to go down a very expensive legal route that the UCI/WADA couldn't afford, so they caved in. It is really straight from the Lance Armstrong manual, but bullying tactics will only work for a certain amount of time before the wrong person gets pissed off. In Lance's case, the wrong person was Landis, but it stands to reason that these lads must also have upset somebody along the way, even if we don't know who that is yet.

disaster for Dan yesterday, may have been better off losing more time and just going for wins.

Big day today with the cobbles, already been a crash before we reached them and Richie Porte is out of the race with what look she like a broken collar bone Cry

Bad new for the race overall

Took a work from home day to watch the stage. Love Alpe Huez. Dan Martin blew up, top 5 looks dead for him.

The 2 sky lads are very strong. Thomas is a lot more likeable than Froome, still not gonna covince many.

It would be a great TDF if there was no Team Sky

Apparently Thomas' time was a second faster than Lance in 2003......

Yeah, top five isn't happening for Dan. Top 10 is looking a little more secure though. He has 4 minutes over 12th, even if Fuglsang in 11th is not far behind.

Too bad Steven K couldn't hang on.

At least he had the balls to make a proper effort at it, the last few TDF's have seen lads fighting for podium positions as they know the win isn't possible. Though it also says a lot for Sky's dominance/arrogance/race knowledge that they let him get 4 minutes up the road and into the virtual yellow jersey, knowing full well they could catch him if & when they wanted to.

Its turning into a bit of a dilemma for Sky, Thomas is marginally the stronger rider of the 2 and despite what he says about Froome being leader & all that nonsense, he will know that he might never get another chance like this. Not quite sure how Thomas will go about losing the time if those are the orders, the obvious one would be the time trial, but that's the 2nd last (effectively last) stage, I don't think you could trust anyone to lose the time at that stage. I don't think Sky particularly care who wins, especially if Dave forsees something PED/TUE/Test fail related thing coming down the road for Froome.

tbh it probably suits sky having Thomas in yellow, keeps froome out of all the media stuff and awkwardness that would go with it.

Thomas still hasn't proved it over 3 weeks but with only one mountain top finish left it could be difficult.

Next Wednesday will be interesting, stage less than 70km and an F1 grid style start, let's just home the other go for it from the off

Nibbling out of the tour now after the crash, looks like his handle bars got caught in someone's camera strap.

Also there's hardly a sprinter left in the race now for a good finish on the champs Elyse.

Have to say I'm enjoying my sick leave been able to watch races from start to finish.

Very poor luck for Dan Martin today, getting a puncture 1 km before the start of the final climb of the day & losing more time. Don't think it made any real difference though, he only lost 1 GC place and apart from Roglic, nobody really made any substantial time either, even the few seconds Bardet lost to Roglic, Froome, Dumolin and Thomas didn't drop him a place.

Never a bother on Thomas at any point during the climb either, while Froome had some half sketchy moments, as did Dumolin, before recovering. I don't see Thomas losing the full 1.39 unless there is a contrived situation of some sort, or a genuine crash/puncture situation. The other thing is that Dumolin, probably the world's best time trialist, is only 11 seconds behind Froome, so as long as he remains there, Sky can't risk Thomas losing that time deliberately, as Dumolin could overtake Froome next Saturday.

That would be the real world though, in the alternative reality that is pro cycling, we can probably expect Froome to just turn it on for one day next week and take 5 minutes out of both, thus rendering it all irrelevant.

Think Martin might pick up another stage win too- he usually goes better in the Pyrenees than the Alps for some reason, and he won't have quite the same level of scrutiny on him from Sky as he is no longer a GC threat.

he's not a go GC threat, but still in top 10 and others there might not want to see him up the road and risk losing their place, would have been better losing another few mins

He can really only overtake Fugslang, maybe Quintana at a push, he's 3 minutes back on Krusijiwk in 7th, who will be mainly protecting Roglic in any case. Hard to know what real form Landa is in, he only looks to be hanging in there most of the time rather than doing much attacking himself. Get past that and Bardet, Roglic & the top 3 will be more preoccupied with marking each other than Dan. In theory anyway.

I think UAE will try something in one or more of the next 3 days and have an effort at dropping or breaking Sky's rythm, other than that, I can't see why they went to the TDF at all, they have been absolutely nowhere in helping Dan for 2 weeks, he is just hanging onto Sky & Movistar before the front men make their move and following them, the lads are nowhere to be seen.

Also, their director chap seemingly said last week they deliberately weren't putting anyone in the breaks because they didn't think they had a chance of winning stages with any other rider. Which means either they have a plan for the Pyrenees or they have brought a fairly useless shower with them for the TDF. They are 18th of 22 in the team classification too, so again that looks like they are taking it relatively easy so far, so they might be up to something. It could also be that they are generally useless, I'm not sure.

Think there is going to be 3 good days ahead anyway, Wednesday will be interesting tactically to say the least, will the front lads wait for their backups to arrive or drive on amongst themselves & try break late on. You would think if team tactics come into play, it might favour those who have their full decks left, though on the other hand, some of them might be starting too far back to make much difference to their leaders.

Think they have to go as a world tour team. Top 10 in GC's is somewhat of a success to them. They had Kristoff to go for sprint stages and Dan for mountain stages. Atapuma looks the only one primed for somethign in the mountains. The rest of them look clean useless

They targeted Giro as their main race this year (but Aru flopped)
