To drag up the "so'n'so shouldn't be in the squad" debate again...

Darragh Burns is flying for Shamrock Rovers. As a left footed winger, he should be in a head of Springett.
Actually he's playing that inverted-RWB role for SR, so would also offer competition to Sam Curtis who is currently the only RWB in the squad.

Also, Franco Umeh is on the bench again to for Crystal Palace.

Some irrelevant trivia, there were four 2005 born players in this last squad, but only two 2004 born players.
2005-Curtis, Vata, O'Mahony & Wogan
vs
2004- Murphy & Grehan.

Their manager seems to see him as an attacking-mid. Hodge himself said just before the break his preferred position is deeper.

A real shame if it ends up being a wasted loan because of that. He needs to be playing.

Well our next qualifier is against them in six months. That same window Norway and Italy also play each other.

Massive!
The trip out there will be very tricky.
We'll need to be top of our game to beat them and remember, they had us beaten at home before they didn't.
Three points there would be huge.

Have to agree. Cork City struggled massively once he left.

Yeah, even just to train with the seniors would be a good opportunity for them. Though I'd switch out Armstrong for Adaramola.

Adaramola & MacNulty both offer something the seniors are missing at LB/LWB

So yeah, would like to see Adaramola, MacNulty, Vata & Lawal join Hodge & Moran going to the seniors.

Was a good game Adaramola impressed me hopefully he can continue to get regular minutes in Belgium. Hodge and Vata also had very good games.

Wouldn’t mind seeing Hodge,Moran,Garcia McNulty and Armstrong brought into the senior squad for the Switzerland game.

After scoring a hat-trick and his involvement with the first-team squad at Celtic, it would be good to see Vata called up to the senior squad for these friendlies, to join Hodge and Moran.

Small thing, but I noticed we lined up 1-11 tonight which was pretty cool.

Any chance we could do that with the seniors too? Something I miss about international football, playing 1-11 made it feel like each player earned that shirt. I'm pretty sure England are the only team to still do it. If Harry Kane was rested on the bench, he'd be wearing 18 rather than 9.

I hate that we have squad numbers now. Should be reserved for tournaments.

Even if you couldn't find another U21s team to play you I wonder if Crawford could have organised something against one of the LOI teams over the international break.

Yes. Right next door to the leisure centre and over the road from the help yourself off licence 😀. Great trip, based in Rimini, but a sh*tsow all round on the pitch
Twas yeah although the memory of the ground has definitely faded!

That's a record win. Previous record was a 5-0 over Estonia in 2010.

Much much better in the 2nd half after the poor first.

Still would say, Curtis, Healy (assist aside) & Springett were poor overall.

Still the wrong call to play Lawal at CB. Decisions like that hold us back.

Murphy should have gotten his debut (instead of bringing on Grehan)

Hodge MOTM for me, was always positive in trying to get the ball forward be it passing or carrying. And constantly making runs to receive in forward areas too.

Moran much more involved in the 2nd half.
Adaramola & Vata excellent in 2nd half.
Vata showing why he should've been in the squad all along.
Adaramola has the attributes to make it to the seniors

1 game this window is still a waste, should've organised a friendly for next week for the 2nd string players.

Vata got 9.9 out of 10 on Sofascore LOL  Don't think I've ever seen that rating.

I didn't see the game, but our line-up looked quality.  A good batch of players - I hope they can be kept together for the rest of the campaign.

Overall they've arguably underachieved and should've qualified for at least one tournament.

Last two campaigns were missed opportunities. Iceland home game and then the playoff exit to Israel the following campaign.

Glad they got the scoreline they deserved tonight after wasting chances in the first half. Clap

Five goals in two appearances for Vata, both against San Marino.

Just checked and that puts Vata joint fourth on the top scorers list with both Robbie Brady and Kevin Doyle joint first with 7.
