Thought Smallbone did well today and seemed like he was more of a physical presence in midfield than he has been in previous games. A good night for him I'd have thought.

Not a drop lads.
Since Patrick's Day in fact. It's a valid point, we're a nice team. Too nice, too quiet. Szmodics isn't, he's a whinging argumentative little so & so & we need more of that. Hint of bastard its known as.

A real ladyboy yes. Maybe that cu nt er Szmodics & his ways will rub off on Ladyboy Smallbone & a few others. Too many of our team are too nice, remember Mad Max that two man enter one man leave challenge ? Most of our guys are the one coming out in a box aren't they ? Let's face it.

Yeah a decent performance but does he open his mouth at all? Midfielders, f**k that, footballers (good ones) need to be commanding, authoritative, particularly down the middle of the team. He strikes me as being a very meek lad

Thought Smallbone was very good today vs Belgium. Would have been worried before hand that a Smallbone-Cullen midfield 2 would struggle but they did well. And Smallbone got forward & supported the attack well too, creating 4 chances. Better on set pieces than Brady was, too. Only his 6th cap today, hopefully he continues to grown into the role over the next couple of years.

I think people have to remember that Smallbone is only into his second season of regular senior first team football only at 23, turning 24yo.
He missed two important development years of football with serious injuries and before that he was just breaking in and out of the Southampton team. So I think it is a bit harsh to be judging him relative to his age and his first few caps. If Southampton get promoted to the PL next for next season, and hopefully they do, we will potentially have another PL midfielder in our squad. I agree with what others are saying that he will probably be a better No 8 for us as his all round game is improving for the position. He played a lot of Right midfield and attacking midfielder when he was breaking into the Southampton first team first. I think Joe Hodge is in a similar position Smallbone when he was 21/22yo, he has not play too much regular senior football due to injuries and needs to get playing.

I think you could only play those three against the weaker teams . Playing those three against Holland, France even Ukraine Scotland would be a disaster . I would replace Smallbone with Moulmby. I know Moulby is only a work horse but in the second match against ukraine he really did stifle their midfield . he didn't give them any time on the ball . Unlike the first match where they controlled the midfield and really got at our defence. He brilliant against France as well, was Irelands player of the match.

Think he's best position for us is gonna be playing in a deeper role. The one time the U21s midfield trio properly clicked for Crawford was with Coventry playing as the 6, Smallbone playing as the 8, and an out and out 10 in Noß. Think you could possibly recreate that trio with Cullen, Smallbone, and Azaz. |
