Interesting looking at their squad though, they look very weak at centre forward at this age group. It's basically just Liam Delap and Dane Scarlett, who has done nothing to date to suggest that he's going to go on to play at a high level. There aren't any strikers from that age group fast tracked into the seniors either. You can see why they would want Cannon on that basis.

Within the same age group (2002 or later) Ireland would have Parrott (2002), Armstrong (2003), Emakhu (2003) and obviously Ferguson (2004). There's probably more competition for Cannon in that Irish group than there is in the English group, albeit Ferguson obviously isn't going to be with the 21s.

Also notable that while Cannon isn't there (yet) they do have a couple of other recent poaches in their squads. Hayden Hackney has been poached from the Scotland underage setup and Omari Kellyman has been poached from Northern Ireland into one of their other underage squads. So they're clearly continuing to be very active in recruiting dual eligible players away from other countries.

They've only poached from one country in your example.......

And while I have no love whatsoever for the English, like Cannon, both those lads Hackney and Kellyman were born in England, so there's that too. No idea what Kellyman in particular was doing in the Northern set up.

Kellyman’s mother is from NI. He was born in Derby. Very talented kid, the NI wallahs are seething at his defection, even more if possible than they were about Sean Moore.

Love me enough to stay

Out injured for an unspecified period of time, so this saga may have a while to run yet.

Leicester was a strange move for him, even when fit you’d expect him to be a sub at best there whereas he would have been playing at Preston where he did so well last season. Everton clearly didn’t rate him highly enough for the PL and they’re a team in terminal decline. So, yes, he could be a confirmed Irishman soon. Quicker than Will Keane, Scott Hogan or Mikey Johnston anyway.

Think it is more down to Dyche than saying he is a no hoper. Everton fans rate him very highly. Just wrong profile and he needs something settled for game time

Cannon has a stress fracture in his back and it's being described as a long term injury by Leicester. His international ambitions will have to wait now it seems.

If he's reading this page, who could blame him for jumping ship. Anyway good luck to him, sounds like a nasty enough injury.
