1985-2001- the 088 (analouge based) network lasted long enough, 16 years, all under the one owner. Mobile phones only came in to public consciousness in the late 90's at the start of the digital age, but the big businessmen of that era has these things for years before the rest of us mere plebs. In technology terms, 16 years is a little more than a decade, in other words, a very long time.

Apple make things to break, or they used to,now they make things that not just break but constantly need updating. The iPod was their one well made product, hence why it had a 'short' shelf life.

Or they have a magic button that makes stuff break after the warranty expires.
