evenings have been getting longer since the 8th of December ever so slightly.  Mornings will continue to have later sunrise until the 4th of January.

because the mornings have been darker and darker until today.  Only from today will it get brighter in the morning earlier and the 21st is the sweet spot where it’s the shortest day of sunlight overall.
