Theres a Harry Corry ad on the radio.  For ages I thought it was ''Harry Corry- she works in store''

Sounds like the guy is singing that but I think its ''see what's in store''

He wouldn't set me free,
So he kept me soul for ransom.

Ronnie Whelan was the first ever Catholic player to play for Liverpool in 1979. For almost 90 years not one Catholic played for them.

Sir Matt Busby was a very devout catholic and he captained Liverpool in the 1930s

I'm not even sure Whelan is the first Irish Catholic to play for Liverpool. Wexford's Bill Lacey played in the pre-war years. Wouldn't be certain of his religion by any means

Yeah defo not true, Irish international Bill Lacey was another who played for them in the 20s. His death notice confirms he was catholic.

The amazing story of Yang Kyoungjong!

Yang is believed to be the only person to have served in in 3 different armies during WW2 - The Imperial Japanaese Army, the Red Army and The Wehrmacht.

The story goes that Yang, a Korean, was forced into the Japanese army after they invaded his country. During The Battle of Khalkin Goal between Japan and Russia, he was captured by the Russians and thrown into The Gulags. In 1942/43 when The Red Army were being mercifully attacked by the Germans, and short on men, Yang was forced to fight for The Russians.

He was subsequently captured by The Germans and thrown in another POW camp. When the Germans were short on manpower themselves prior to the Allied Invasion of France in 1944, Yang was once again forced to fight. He was apparently arrested by The Yanks in Normandy after D-Day.

read about that guy while on a visit to normandy. he was one of a whole load of former soviet troops forced to fight for the nazis in france.

while obviously not in the same war my wife's great-grandfather served in the austro-hungarian army, polish army of the second polish republic (1918-1939) and when poland was defeated in ww2 he joined the red army fighting with the polish peoples army. fought on the eastern front in ukraine, poland and eventually ended up in berlin. he somehow managed to survive an insane amount of carnage.

my wife's granny was an infant at the time was telling me one evening how the family hadn't heard from him in two years when a cousin who made ends meet by selling cigs to the soldiers bumped into him near poznan. the cousin then sent word back to the family to say yer man was still alive. crazy sh*t... at least the western allies had a postal service.

A number of sources say this online

They might all be coming from the same incorrect source but there are plenty of more articles that say it.

Not soviet but in Saving Private Ryan two guys hold up their hands to surrender just after they stormed the beach were speaking Czech they said they were forced to fight by the Germans but the Americans shot them anyway. Apparently loads of stories like that.
