This whole outcry over Steve Bruce being sacked is hilarious. It stinks of a Tory mindset; know your place Geordies and don't ever expect anything better! Newcastle have been absolutely abysmal to watch since he took over. His record is appalling, "oh but it's the same league finish as Rafa" they cry, completely looking over anything but surface details, or conveniently what they both inherited or had to invest. The way the media have ran with his parting shots dripping of victimhood too; what an absolute loser man. Those saying he handled himself with dignity clearly never watched any of his pressers. He's a big man-baby with the thinnest skin I've seen. Thank fu*k he is no longer our problem. Big knowing nods to Birmingham, Sunderland, Villa and Sheffield Wednesday fans who watched this play out as they'd seen before. The last few days have been absolutely mental seeing and hearing so many batsh*t opinions without any details. Lovely family man though. Can't wait to see him in charge of the clubs of anyone who's defended him.
Anyway, onwards and upwards.

He’d be right up there at the top of the ‘great bloke’ league with Mick. Pity they are sh*t at what they’re paid for.

Both have managed at least 1000 games, Mick has managed Ireland twice including at a World Cup. Both also played for and won trophies with big clubs. You do not rack up achievements like that in the cut-throat environs of professional football by being sh*t.

Mick also didn't know that we had a man advantage over Spain for ages when we played them in the World Cup. Which kind of proved Keane's point about preparation in hindsight.

What would be the equivalent Liberal Democrat mindset in this situation? Maybe the Labour mindset might keep Bruce there? What about the Reform Party mindset?

Bruce is a nice guy but he is a poor football manager , The comparisons with him and Rafa are laughable!
Bruce was give 160M to spend and he made Joelinton the clubs record signing at 40M , Joelinton was absolute muck in the Austrian Bundesliga ,Seen him play in Salzburg and spent 90 minutes doing fook all. He constantly played players out of position which was the same thing he did at Villa. He is gone now and I wish him all the best but based on the 9 games so far this season Newcastle might be too far away from safety by January for new signings to make a difference!

Similar to Mick he passed his best as a manager some time ago and was obviously only there as a stop gap until the deal went through which went on a lot longer than the Ashley and the new owners anticipated - he job was to keep them up which he did.
No investment or any kind of freshening of the squad last summer was going to lead to a poor start and relegation battle. The abuse he’s gets is a sad statement of modern football fans behaviours and him being called a big baby for calling it out is an further extension of the same abuse. Going forward the new owners seem a little clueless in the football world - not having a manage lined up immediately for example. I see a lot of money wasted via footballs snake oil salesmen before any significant progress. Managers will come and go. This season: next weekend..Leeds and Saints win next weekend with a Chelsea win and a gap will open. Does anyone see Newcastle winning enough games to stay up??

They'll do well to stay up. Looks like they sacked Bruce without having a replacement lined up. Not very smart and no matter what sort of money the new guy is given, they are going to have a huge problem offloading all the under-achievers currently on big salaries and long term contracts who are unlikely to say the least to get offers of better terms elsewhere. Presuming the new man keeps Dubrovka, Saint-Maximim and Wilson, that still leaves an awful lot of dross to shift.

Rubbing his hands with glee at the idea of a nice 40 million pounds payoff from the Saudi rubes once he inevitably gets sacked with over 3 years of his contract left.

Would imagine a large percentage feel underwhelmed after the initial euphoria of the takeover.

I think Eddie Howe might actually be a decent choice.
It will be a huge task to keep the team up but he kept Bournemouth up for 5 years on a limited budget compared to most, Sure he may not attract the names that the likes of Emery might but hopefully he can get the right players to stay up. He likes to play attacking football which hasn't really been a thing since the days of Keegan.

I think most of the big name managers will avoid the job for a few seasons because it's too big of rebuilding job at the moment.

As I said before Howe probably wouldn't have been my first choice but similar to when Bruce took the job I'll give him the benefit and see how he gets on.

The "ambitious plans" Howe refers to follow the £305m Saudi Arabian-backed takeover by the Public Investment Fund, and the 43-year-old was asked about his new employer's human rights background.
"For me this was a football decision. I'm absolutely delighted to be manager of Newcastle," he said. "I'll repeat myself, it is about football and that is all I'll concern myself with." |
