I'm gonna draw up an approx list of our most highly rated talent aged 21 or younger. We can make our predictions on where their careers will be by the end of 2026. My two categories are 1) Level they are playing at and 2) no. of senior international caps. World Class - WC Top Premier league level - T Prem Good European League: Euro Standard/ Lower Premier league - L Prem Championship - Champ League one - L1 League two - L2 SPL - SPL LOI - LOI Non league UK - Non L Leinster senior league or local equivalent: LOI Not playing: N/A I've probably missed loads of good lads so feel free to add. Otherwise copy their names and stick their level and no. of caps beside them. Gavin Bazunu Andrew Omobamidele Nathan Collins Jason Knight Troy Parrott Adam Idah Michael Obafemi Festy Ebosele Mark McGuinness Jake O’Brien Lee O’Connor Conor Coventry Dawson Devoy Ryan Johansson Gavin Kilkenny Ollie O’Neill Conor Noss Will Smallbone Evan Ferguson Will Ferry Armstrong Oko-Flex Sean Roughan Bosun Lawal Sinclair Armstrong Johnny Kenny Andrew Moran Kevin Zefi Rocco Vata Edited by MC Hammered - 18 Nov 2021 at 2:37pm |

You left out Ross Tierney Gavin Kilkenny and Daragh Burns another one to keep an eye on.
Ross Tierney could be capable of getting to top Championship/ at least. His attacking stats this season have been insane but for me he's a real important one going to Motherwell. If he can do well there/hit the ground running it will set a template where Scottish clubs outside the big two might really start sourcing young LOI talent especially with the St Mirren boys doing well too. The SPL is a decent level of football and they tend to have less competitive squads then Championship/L1 teams so that would be a good thing.

I predict that all of them will be playing in either England, Scotland or Ireland.

Bit of a futile exercise being honest, but lolz at Idah L1 vs Johnny Kenny Championship.

Anyone that uses lolz in a sentence should be given an instant ban.
I think Bazunu, Kelleher, Omobamidele and Knight will be top half Premier League players.

I'd add Smallbone if he can avoid any further serious injuries, Nathan Collins and Dara O'Shea to that list and I think both Idah and Connolly will be PL/upper end CH Players also.

This is obviously next to impossible, especially as injuries will undoubtedly ruin some careers that would otherwise have been played at a higher level. But, based on what we have seen up to now, I'll go with the following.
Players who will play most of their careers in the EPL or equivalent league: Gavin Bazunu Andrew Omobamidele Nathan Collins Jason Knight Dara O'Shea Evan Ferguson Kevin Zefi Players who will land around lower EPL/Championship level: Troy Parrott Adam Idah Festy Ebosele Mark McGuinness Gavin Kilkenny Will Smallbone Andrew Moran Aaron Connolly Mark Travers Caoimhin Kelleher Jayson Molumby Anthony Scully Jack Taylor Dan McNamara Joel Bagan Jimmy Dunne Jake Doyle-Hayes Players who will end up at League 1, League 2, LoI, non-league, or just fall out of the professional game completely: Conor Coventry John Patrick Michael Obafemi Joe Hodge Tyriek Wright Ryan Johansson Louis Watson JJ Kayode Will Ferry Conor Noss Dawson Devoy Sean Roughan Armstrong Oko-flex Jake O'Brien Lee O'Connor Bosun Lawal Rocco Vata and many, many others. There's bound to be a few there that will be way off, a few bigger names won't reach their potential, a few I've written off will kick on and surprise us. But the majority of these lads we watch at underage will fall well short of the top level longer term.

Bar the first short list, the two other lists are one of players who have made a start in their professional careers (made debuts and/or a fair few appearances) at that level and the last list of a of those who have yet to do so.
Seems unless you have have evidence they can play at that level, you write them off (the only exception to this in your bottom list being Obafemi). |

Quite a few in the last list have played senior football, mostly on loan down the divisions. Seeing the likes of Will Ferry and Tyriek Wright struggling for minutes down in League 2 isn't filling me with hope for their futures to be honest.
But any list anyone posts here will clearly be well off if someone does re-open this thread in 2026, so it's not to be taken too seriously. However, I do think that senior football is the only level you can really judge younger players in, PL2 and international underage level is largely meaningless in terms of picking out future talent. So, yes, there's definitely a weighting towards players that have proven they can play at senior level in those lists (as well as a few punts like Zefi). Players attitudes make a big difference also. I always like hearing reports about younger Irish players having a great workrate and attitude, it is so often the difference between the players that make it and the ones that fall away. So players like Omobamidele, Knight and O'Shea, who are all reportedly very dedicated young pros, would rank higher than players like Obafemi and Oko-flex, who are probably just as talented but reportedly don't have the work ethic needed to succeed.
