I have a trip to one of the Balearic Islands for next week for 5 days. Flights, 4 star hotel on the beach came to a total of 470 for two. We booked it in June.

I struggle to personally understand how anyone can justify paying literally thousands to endure the worst of Irish weather. Fantastic opportunity to enjoy the sun and beach for 1/3 of the price over the coming months. Flying is the safest form of public transport.

Have you been socialising much over the past couple of weeks?

People should just stay in their houses for a year, don’t venture out at all.

The Dingle side of things is a lot better IMO - I've done it the last 3 years.

The fish box is meant to be very popular place to eat and the Boatyard too, Dick Macs for pints but it was closed and due to be open on Monday

Inch beach is worth dropping into if your passing.

Check this out - https://www.theirishroadtrip.com/48-hours-in-kerry/?fbclid=IwAR1qGgNOWIX5s2wvn_WiIpPUMoCADLph7F012bwCfuvLrs-0tTpq93H_-9I

There is also a group on Facebook too called 'The Irish Road Trip'

In Dingle, I'd go to Dunquin pier\Dun Chaoin Pier and do the Slea Head drive and the Conor Pass etc..

Also Coumeenoole Beach too

There is a look out we stumbled across at the Aghadoe Hotel which overlooks all the lake and all the islands. The google pictures don't do it justice.

I'd drive to the Torc waterfall as it's on the way to the Gap of Dunloe as opposed to walking to it via the Killarney park, might save you some time.

Derrynane beach is also good spot but a bit of pain to get too. You can do all sorts of water sports there too

In Valencia Island, I'd head up to Geokaun mountains and the Bray Head, and the Kerry Cliffs in Portmagee too.

Rossbeigh strand is nice for a stroll if you passing by too.

You'll probably stumbled across things that might interest you more along the way too.

Cheers Thumbs Up

It's not going to disappear after a year. If you are careful then why not go away and enjoy yourself.

Families in particular tend to have x amount set aside for their annual holiday. And in their mindset nothing will stop their annual religious trek to the Algarve, Majorca or the Costa Del Sol.

There’s also an argument, it’s cheaper to holiday abroad then at home.

yes,BUT the virus is still there, getting stronger and spreading , so it would be irresponsible, selfish and incredibly disrespectful to those who have actually given their lives fighting this thing to risk a further outbreak and possibly a return to lockdown for a holiday?? Plus the Irish hotels I bet could really do with the business some very reasonable deals online. My only worry is sharing a space with f**king yanks who seem to be blithely unaware of how unwanted they are atmLOLLOL

The front line staff should come out onto the streets at 8pm every evening to clap those risking their lives by boozing abroad and keeping the craic going in these unprecedented hard times. Heroes

Valid points about the personal sacrifices of health workers. It's not there fault that between them NPHET and the Government haven't be able to get their message through to the public. Initially the public responded very well and were responsive to advice through fear more than anything else but as things developed and the number of cases reduced the mixed messages and contradictory advice has raised questions on the reliability of the message and lessened the public's confidence in those in charge. Another issue missing in the debate is the total ignorance of official Ireland in understanding some aspects of Irish people's behaviour and moral compasses. As regards holidays, the advice was to cancel holidays abroad and holiday at home. A lot of families I know did this and booked holidays at home, then the government decide to put the brakes moving to phase 4. In addition to the extortionate cost of holidays here,  there is really little to do for families here if the weather is bad, never mind the parents wanting a pint ln their holidays. The hotel holiday industry here is generally geared towards overseas adult tourists and not a family destination. Sure the number 1 tourist attraction in the country is a brewery tour...

The virus is everywhere, forever. Can we all get real. My finance was on the front line, (we both caught the virus, yet had no symptoms) She deserves a holiday, her colleagues didn’t cancel theirs either. They all fought the coronavirus, if anyone deserves a holiday, health service workers do. It’s about time Ireland openned the borders to EU tourism, reconnect families separated across Europe and kick start the 1-10 jobs tourism is directly related to.
