Well, the issue is that a song can have multiple meanings.

Say there's a chant that is wholly innocent and Liverpool or Liverpool fans say "that's disparaging to Hillsborough victims and Sean Cox".

If you continue to sing the song, despite the previously innocent meaning, there is very much the potential for it to be perceived as being disparaging to Hillsborough victims and Sean Cox.

I think this is the point people are missing slightly. Perception is important as is connotation. Hillsborough was the subject certain press information at the time, which regrettably has never been totally shaken, in spite of apologies etc. Equally, I think you’d have to be willing to set aside the facts around Sean Cox’s case not to be troubled by lyrics like that and how they could be construed.

What Manchester City are practising here is Trump-style "plausible deniability".

Chant something sick, which everybody knows the implied meaning of, but which you can then claim to deny with a straight face by gaslighting.

In all my years following football, I've never seen a club so consistently shameless and deliberately tone deaf as Manchester City, and that includes Rangers.

The truth of it is, they're a sick club on every level, the financial doping, the physical doping history of their manager, the covering up of paedophilia etc., but the total tone deafness to the human rights abuses of their owners and the behaviour of their players would be totally laughable if didn't have such genuinely toxic implications.

I could not support a club like that.

If Liverpool was bought out by human rights abusers, I would simply no longer support the club. It would hurt me to have to do that, but I could not support a reputation laundering tool of human rights-abusing scumbags.

Liverpool supporters have sung some sick chants in their time that they shouldn't have done, mate. Nobody denies that.

What club has supporters that haven't?

By the way, Manchester City supporters have been chanting "Munich" for decades.

The point of my above post is, as you know full well from your selective highlighting to try and twist its meaning, that Liverpool FC is not a shameless front for a regime that engages in systematic human rights abuses, whereas Manchester City is.

If Liverpool ever became such a front for a despotic regime, that would be the day I stop supporting them.

City could’ve killed this story by apologising for offence caused and their staff getting carried away; these things do happen. Then made a healthy donation to
Sean Cox/Hillsborough in good faith. They chose to style it out. Bad move.

Is this what you're reduced to now?

The use of the word "parody" is unintentionally deeply ironic

Wow

You're still really offended that people didn't laugh at the mocking of Sean Cox and the Hillsborough victims, aren't you

Go and watch a few Bernard Manning clips on YouTube

sh*t, kick down comedy but on your level

He was a Manchester City supporter too by the way

I'm amazed that since you've decided to take the Trumpist line you didn't call the Liverpool Echo "the Liverpool Echo Chamber"

It would at least have shown some small wit, even if it was an open door

But you didn't see the open door and now since I've pointed it out, you can't use it

Too bad
