Agreed, pathetic.

There'd be a lot more furore and hate about this if it was McIlroy who was accepting the Saudi offer

At least he did it in an American accent anyway rather than making the Irish look bad.

That was bizarre alright. Started off by waffling on about how golfers aren't politicians etc and then randomly changed tack to that. Tbh he came across as someone who was totally underprepared for the press conference in general. He must have known what some of the questions would be like and should have had some kind of response prepared. Instead he tried to just wing it and came across pretty terribly.

He's not alone in that - The likes of Eddie Howe try and front it out by playing slightly ignorant.

Looks like Henrik Stenson is the latest to jump ship, and he'll be stripped of Ryder Cup Captaincy

Henrik Stenson removed as Europe's Ryder Cup captain - BBC Sport

Former captain Paul McGinley said Stenson is "not going to come of of this looking good" if his expected move to LIV Golf is confirmed.

"He's doing it for money," he said. "I'm sure this was not an easy decision for him. But, ultimately, he has made that decision. It's something that disappoints me. But I can understand.

"I'm not going to come down on any of the guys who have gone to LIV. They've been offered huge amounts of money.

"For Henrik, it's life-changing at this stage of his career. It's unlikely he is ever going to earn that kind of money going forward. But is he doing it to revolutionise a game that needs to be changed? No.

"I had a great relationship with him as a captain and a player over the years. So I'm not going to slam him for making a judgment call. Everyone is entitled to their own view of things. But this is incredibly disappointing for the Ryder Cup. There is no doubt about that."

Meanwhile, 2010 Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie said: "It is a very sad day for European golf."

What da fcuk is McGinley and Monty on about? Everybody knows Golf is all about Money and loads of it! and oh yeah I enjoyed the OPEN on SKY, give me a break!

It's the same as the European Super League. The incumbent players/broadcasters will fight the new arrival tooth and nail.

That said, I also oppose LIV and ESL

Yeah there's money and then there's MONEY!!!

Not  wanting to getting dragged into another Saudi argument but yeah they're willing to pay a lot more than the PGA/European Tours and for a lot less game time.

I know majority of the golfers who have joined are probably quite rich and as you say could live comfortably if they stayed in PGA.

But again Golf like most other sports and careers is all about money, If you got a job offer to do pretty much the exact same job but for double(maybe triple) the pay you'd jump at it.

I'd say Thomas Bjorn might take up the mantle as captain given he done it not too long ago and I believe he was named as a vice captain recently.

Nice payday alright.  I wonder how this prize money related to their signing on fees - assume some of the guarantee fee is reduced otherwise the money is even crazier.

Was about 80k watching the official broadcast on YouTube yesterday.  Hilariously small numbers for the money Saudis are pumping into it. 50 million now for injured over the hill Bubba Watson.  Surprising they are being so cheap at Newcastle when they could win the premiership for the amount they are paying mid tier golfers.
